Yes, but Funimation was always avoiding LATAM until now, they just started with Mexico and Brazil, but I don't think they will expand in 2021 to more countries in the region, probably in 2022 they will continue their expansion. |

now I'm worried... Crumchyroll dubs in latin/south America are way better than Funimation... I hope they don't screw up like she already did

That, and maybe they'll actually credit actors in all their roles and not only the mains (*coughcoughSomaliAndTheForestSpiritcoughcough*). Plus, maybe there's a chance this'll mean shows like Laid-Back Camp and Place Further Than The Universe will be licensed? Hell, CR actually took a gamble on two Precure shows recently. Maybe more will be on the way because of this new deal? Who knows? I'm going to be cautiously optimistic. |

Weary of monopolies. Hope they can all keep most of their employees. Wonder about how they would go about things like streaming, releasing in regions, dubbing, etc.

The positive benefits to this would be hopefully more dubs and more physical releases. It would also be ideal if we could have Funimation, Crunchyroll, and HiDive all on VRV instead of getting rid of it. At least for the average Amereican anime consumer I don't see that this will change the landscape that drastically like how people are freaking out on Twitter. The biggest risk of this is how Sentai will be effected by this who were already struggling to keep up with their rivals. I also wonder how this will effect the LA dubbing scene. Will Funimation still use them instead of just Texas all the time or will LA be exclusively with Netflix now? I also wonder about how this will effect the Crunchyroll employees and their social media team like Miles and Daniel Dockery.

I think this might actually help Sentai since I doubt Funimation will continue to license all of the more niche shows that Crunchyroll usually licenses. In theory this would allow Sentai to license more shows even if they won't be any of the more popular shows. As far as dubbing they could always use the Texas studios to do their simuldubs while using the LA studios to dub some of Crunchyroll's older shows since I doubt that Funimation can handle doing both. That is assuming Funimation wants to go back and dub the older show of course. |

Yeah, I'm wondering if this means the end of Crunchyroll Originals and Crunchyroll's four seasonal LA dubs. Does everything go to Funimation now? Does Crunchyroll have any autonomy here? I assume that any Crunchy license with a continuation (Re:Zero, Rent-a-Girlfriend, In/Spectre, Science Fell in Love, My Next Life as a Villainess, etc.) will still get LA dubs, but will that be it? And will they still go to the same dubbing studio or will Funi staff direct the LA VA's (I assume they'll still use Chris Cason for Re:Zero)? Aniplex will probably still use LA for franchises they were already using LA for and for Light Novel adaptions (if Irregular of Magic High School and Misfit of Demon King Academy's dubs are any indication). Does Funi now have access to Crunchyroll's undubbed back catalog to dub now? Like Planet With or Sing Yesterday for Me? Granted, having said all this, we've been getting a lot of mixed casts with Funi's simuldubs as of late, even in lead roles, so regional differences might not be as notable as far as anime dubbing is concerned. And what does this mean for HBOMax and VRV? |

Yikes, a monopoly on anime streaming isn't good, and I'm worried that so many more dubs are gonna be done in Texas now. I don't care much for Funi's pool of voice actors. I at the very least hope we'll still get LA dubs.

Welp, this is an interesting development. I honestly don't know if it spells doom and less power to the consumer or if it could be a good thing.
This YouTuber's take is interesting because it's optimistic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRjSE_60Pz4 I don't know though, I can't think of a large merger where the company turned around and spent money upgrading their product to help consumers instead of doing absolutely nothing to upgrade their product and then raising prices. We're in for some interesting announcements in the coming year/s. |

2020 just keeps getting better.
I'm a bit weary of Sony pretty much owning the US anime industry now. Hope they leave my softcore porn anime alone |

Going from a pirate site in 2006 to being sold for $1.175-billion in cash 14 years later... not too shabby.

I doubt this merger worth enough money for the FTC to bat an eye at. If CR was that profitable, ATT wouldn't have put it up for sale.

And just like that the divorce between funimation and crunchyrole is over lol
I wonder how this is going to affect both sites in the future and if both websites will merge into one |

ATT tried selling Warner Interactive a few months ago, which was profitable. It’s about pairing down that huge debt of theirs. |

Too many assumptions in this thread for my taste. Me, I'm just gonna wait and see how things play out instead of concluding something's going to happen a certain way.
If net neutrality wound up a big pile of nothing for me, this will too. |
