The company added that all orders and projects will be put on hold as the company staff take the time to mourn and honor Haasch's memory. The company stated that its core members are committed to carrying on Haasch's dreams, and will make sure that projects he began will reach fruition.
Haasch posted on the Star Fruit Books website on September 1 that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma, but assured that it was curable. He added that he had "a small hole" in his lung, "which [doctors] might do a quick procedure on to help heal." He stated then that the publisher would go on a short hiatus due to his treatment.
Haasch also launched a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign on September 2 to cover rent and debt during his projected short-term disability. The fundraising campaign remains active.
Haasch founded Star Fruit Books in May 2020, and licensed Q-ta Minami's Pop Life manga as its first license. The publisher is known for licensing more obscure works, as well as licensing directly from the authors. The publisher's latest license was Chikae Ide's The Final Strike (Saigo no Strike) manga.
Aside from his work in Star Fruit Books, Haasch also worked as a middle school teacher.
