The "handwriting on the wall" is clear for anyone to read, that takes the time. This business is heading down the Circuit City, Borders, Blockbuster path and there is only one end to that : B & N is not going to make it.

So, what would an buyout specialist do with it? That's the question.

We've been on this roller coaster ride before. Hand me a bag and hang on.

I highly suspect they really want the NOOK business and don't care nearly as much about the rest, but I suppose B&N's distribution network might be interesting, though I'm not terribly sure what they'd do with the brick and mortar stores(make them into lit cafes?).

If true, that does it then. The end of brick and mortar bookstores except for a very few small businesses which probably won't be able to hang on.

I think that's going to be a sad day if and when it does happen, and I guess that will leave online as the only way to get physical books anymore.

For better or worse, I think we're heading towards everything but perhaps art and photography books being read on tablets eventually.

Well, online bookstores would be a great idea. It certainly sacrifices some of my favorite parts of browsing books in a store, so I won't consider it a overall positive transformation, but in the modern tech-focused age, that seems like a good way to help physical books survive.
