Nintendo revealed in a consolidated financial highlights report on Thursday that the Mario Kart Tour game app has been delayed to summer 2019. The game was originally planned for release in the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2019.
The report said that the developers hope to improve the quality of the game and expand the content after launch. The report also stated, "As we endeavor to develop future planned applications, we will also focus on continued service operations for applications that have already been released so that consumers can enjoy playing them for a long time."
Nintendo announced the app in February 2018 as a new game in the Mario Kart game series and the first of the series made for smartphones. The game will be "free to start." Nintendo is planning and developing the application while DeNA is responsible for the backend, such as servers, infrastructure, and analysis.
