Tensai Bakabon, More Manga Appear on Rice Wine Jars for Sake Exhibition

The "I Love Sake Nihonshu Maniac-haku in Tokyo" event is celebrating the culture of Japan's rice wine. Characters from Fujio Akatsuka's Tensai Bakabon manga will appear on the label for special One Cup Ozeki jarred sake exclusive to the event.

The "Creators Design One Cup" sake will also feature original designs from Kazuo Umezu (Makoto-chan, Cat Eyed Boy), Moyoco Anno (The Diary of Ochibi-san, Sugar Sugar Rune), Kotobuki Shiriagari (Ano Hi Kara no Manga, Sukiyaki Western Django), Laswell Hosoki (Ichigen-san Irasshai!, LaSushi!), and Thai illustrator Wisut Ponnimit. A total of 30 creators are contributing designs.

Laiji Matsumoto (Space Battleship Yamato, Galaxy Express 999), Haruhiko Mikimoto (Macross 7, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress character design), Yutaka Tōdō (Yura Colors, S -Saigo no Keikan-), and Suzuhito Yasuda (Durarara!!, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? light novel illustrations) are participating in the "Nihonshu Monogatari" project that transforms Japanese rice wines into characters. Character panels and sake brands will be on exhibit. In addition, the exhibition will include the "Sake Pedia" exhibit that digs into the subculture, a local cup sake introduction exhibit, sake tasting, and talk events.

The exhibition will run in the Parco Museum on the seventh floor of the Parco Ikebukuro department store in Tokyo from February 10 to March 5. Regular tickets will cost 500 yen (about US$4), and student tickets will cost 400 yen (US$4).

Anime-themed sake already lets fans drink in their favorite shows, including Moyashimon, AnoHana, Urusei Yatsura, and Lucky Star. Inu Yasha and Kinnikuman sake debuted in November. A limited-edition version of your name. sake has helped Hida, Gifu Prefecture earn more than 18.5 billion yen (about US$164 million) for the local economy.
