One-Punch Man, Showa: A History of Japan Nominated for Harvey Awards
posted on by Karen Ressler
The Harvey Awards, which honors outstanding work in comics and sequential art, revealed its list of nominations for this year's awards on Tuesday. Viz Media's release of ONE and Yūsuke Murata's One-Punch Man and Drawn & Quarterly's release of Shigeru Mizuki's Showa: A History of Japan (1953-1989) are nominated in the "Best American Edition of Foreign Material" category.
The manga are nominated alongside IDW Publishing's Corto Maltese: Beyond the Windy Isles, Archaia and BOOM! Studios' The Realist, and Dark Horse Comics' Two Brothers.
Unlike the Eisner Awards and other awards in the North American comic book industry, the Harvey Awards are nominated and selected by the comic book professionals themselves. The Harvey Awards will be held in conjunction with Baltimore Comic-Con in Baltimore, Maryland on September 3.
No manga were nominated in the 2015 awards, but Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga won in the "Best American Edition of Foreign Material" category in 2014. Taiyo Matsumoto's Sunny and Shigeru Mizuki's Showa: A History of Showa Japan were also nominated in the same category that year.
