Durarara!! Author Collaborates on Manga Mini-Series Kuroha & Nijisuke

posted on by Alex Mateo
"Boy-meets-girl" story premieres in December issue of Monthly Shōnen Sirius

The December issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Sirius magazine launched Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!!, Baccano!) and Nazuna Hakubai's (Opapagoto) new manga mini-series, Kuroha & Nijisuke, on Tuesday. The magazine is advertising it as as "a boy-meets-girl story like you've never seen." The first chapter, "Preface: Chance Meeting," is about Kuroha, a girl whom "Lady Luck" likes, and Nijisuke, a boy with extreme misfortune. Narita is in charge of the original story, and Hakubai is illustrating.

Narita launched a Durarara!! spinoff novel titled Orihara Izaya to, Kassai o (With Izaya Orihara, Applause) on October 8 with illustrations by Durarara!! illustrator Suzuhito Yasuda. Narita is also working on the final "1935" volume of his Baccano! novel series.

Narita's Durarara!! novels have inspired multiple adaptations, including television anime, video games, and manga series. Yen Press publishes the light novels and manga in North America, while Aniplex of America licensed the anime. The novels' first arc ended in 2014 with the 13th volume, and Narita relaunched the series as Durarara!! SH. The novels inspired a television series in 2010, and three sequel series in 2015-2016. Yen Press published the original Durarara!! manga adapting the novels in North America, as well as its sequel Durarara!! Saika Arc.

Narita began the ongoing Baccano! light novel series with illustrations by Katsumi Enami in 2003. Yen Press is releasing the series in North America. The series inspired an anime adaptation in 2007.
