Live-Action Ani ni Aisaresugite Komattemasu Film Opens at #3

New Soreike! Anpanman film opens at #7, 2nd Free! Timeless Medley film at #10

The live-action film adaptation of Rina Yagami's Ani ni Aisaresugite Komattemasu manga debuted at #3 at the Japanese box office during its opening weekend. The film sold 143,000 tickets to earn 165 million yen (about US$1.46 million) after opening on 251 screens on Friday.

The 29th Anpanman anime film, Soreike! Anpanman Buruburu no Takarasagashi Daibōken! (Let's Go! Anpanman: Buruburu's Big Treasure Hunt Adventure!), opened on Saturday to debut at #7 at the Japanese box office. The anime sold 80,000 tickets to earn 88 million yen (US$780,000) in its opening weekend. The film introduces an original character based on the hero of Yasashii Raion (Kind Lion), a picture book by the late creator of Anpanman Takashi Yanase.

The second of the Free! franchise's two anime compilation films, Free! The Movie -Timeless Medley- the Promise (Free! -Timeless Medley- Yakusoku), opened on Saturday to debut at #10. The first film, Free! The Movie -Timeless Medley- the Bond (Free! -Timeless Medley- Kizuna), opened on April 22 and ranked at #10 in its opening weekend. Both films also include new footage. The "Bond" film focused on the members of the Iwatobi Swim Club, and the "Promise" film will focus on Rin and Sousuke.

The irregular at magic high school The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars (Gekijōban Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei: Hoshi o Yobu Shōjo) anime film fell off the top 10 box office charts in its third weekend. The film opened on June 17 and sold about 107,000 tickets during its opening weekend to earn about 163 million yen (about US$1.47 million) and debut #5 at the Japanese box office. The film earned more than 300 million yen (about US$2.67 million) to rank at #6 in its second weekend. The anime has earned more than 400 million yen (about US$3.53 million) as of Tuesday.
