Children of the Whales Stage Play Gets New Showing in January

The official website for the stage play adaptation of Abi Umeda's Children of the Whales (Kujira no Kora wa Sajō ni Utau) manga announced that the play will run again in Tokyo in January 2018 and elsewhere in February. The new cast includes:
- Tomoru Akazawa as Chakuro (returning)
- Ami Maeshima as Rikosu (returning)
- Takuma Zaiki as Ōni
- Tsubasa Sakiyama as Suō (returning)
- Ryūjirō Izaki as Ryodari
- Yū Imari as Orka
- Karin Takahashi as Sami
- Miku Ohno as Neri/Ema (returning)
- Shōtarō Arisawa as Leader
Fumiya Matsuzaki is directing the play and writing the script.
The original stage play (pictured right) ran at AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo from April 14-19, 2016.
The manga's story takes place in a world covered in sand. A boy named Chakuro lives on the giant vessel Mud Whale that drifts over the sea of sand. Chakuro and his friends have never seen anyone from the outside world, and they spend their days yearning to explore and learn about it. One day, a ruined ship suddenly drifts ashore, and Chakura meets a girl inside.
Umeda launched the series in the Monthly Mystery Bonita magazine in 2013 as her second shōjo manga. Akita Shoten released the ninth compiled book volume on March 16. Viz Media licensed the manga, and will begin releasing it in November. The manga is ispiring a television anime that will premiere in October.
