Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics launches on February 17 alongside required accessories

Nintendo announced during the Nintendo Direct stream on Friday that it will add Virtual Boy games to its "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack" paid membership service. The "Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics" service will launch on February 17, alongside a physical Virtual Boy accessory that costs US$99.99 and a Cardboard Model of a Virtual Boy that costs US$24.99. Either one is required to play the games. The company streamed a trailer unveiling the service, accessories, and games:

Nintendo will release the following 14 games on the service over time, which is a majority of the Virtual Boy's complete 22-game library. This includes games that were previousuly unreleased in the West:

  • Virtual Boy Wario Land
  • Galactic Pinball
  • Red Alarm
  • Teleroboxer
  • Mario Tennis
  • Jack Bros.
  • Vertical Force
  • Mario Clash
  • Golf
  • Virtual Bowling
  • Space Invaders Virtual Collection
  • 3D Tetris
  • Innsmouth no Yakata (previously unreleased in the West)
  • V-Tetris (previously unreleased in the West)

Nintendo released the Virtual Boy portable console in 1995. Through a system designed after binoculars, the Virtual boy allowed for stereoscopic 3D graphics with a red display. The console historically did not sell well, and Nintendo discontinued it after a year. The company has never rereleased the games in full until the Nintendo Classics collection on Switch and Switch 2. Nintendo rarely mentioned the system, only referencing in games like Tomodachi Life and the WarioWare series.
