However, Yoshitaka Yasuda is serving as the "sexiness animator" and the overall chief animation director for the OVA. (Nakahara will reprise his chief animation director role for the second television anime season.) Hirofumi Sakagami is the OVA's new art director, and Toei Video is handling the production.

The OVA had a crowdfunding campaign that launched on March 7, and reached its initial 3 million yen (about US$26,869) goal for a 10-minute episode after 14 hours. It reached its 6 million yen stretch goal (about US$53,500) to give the OVA a runtime of 20 minutes or more. The campaign ended on April 26 with 7,989,500 yen (about US$74,700), or 266% of the initial goal.

The OVA will feature six "slightly ecchi episodes that can't be broadcast on TV." Ryōichi Kuraya will direct and write the script for the OVA, and Zero-G will animate it.

The anime franchise is based on Yoshikazu Hamada's Tsugumomo manga. The anime will also get a second season titled Tsugu Tsugumomo that will premiere in 2020. Ryōichi Kuraya is returning to direct the season and supervise the series scripts, and Zero-G will again animate the series.

The 12-episode first season premiered in April 2017, and Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired. Funimation released the anime on home video with "a combination of uncensored and TV broadcast materials based on what was available from the licensor" in May 2018.
