Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Manga Goes on Indefinite Hiatus

Creators to take break for health, consider adjusting manga's serialization pace

Volume 1 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe's Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sōsō no Frieren) manga will go on hiatus beginning from this year's 47th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine on October 22. (The manga still has a new chapter on this week's issue on Wednesday.) The magazine will reveal details on the manga's continuation at a later date.

The announcement noted that the hiatus is for the creators Yamada and Abe to take stock of their health, adding that it came after discussions between the creators and the magazine's editorial staff about adjusting the serialization pace of the manga.

The manga recently entered hiatus in January, and returned on July 23.

The series had returned from an earlier hiatus last December, after taking two weeks off starting in late November. The manga took other hiatuses from May-August 2024 and from January-March 2023.

Yamada and Abe launched the ongoing manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in April 2020.  Shogakukan published the manga's first compiled book volume in August 2020, and released the 14th volume on March 18. The 15th volume will ship on December 18. Viz Media has licensed the manga, and it released the 13th volume in English on May 13. Yen Press has also licensed Mei Hachimoku's Frieren: Beyond Journey's End ~Prelude~ novel for release in March 2026.

The Frieren: Beyond Journey's End anime premiered with a two-hour special in September 2023. The anime is getting a second season that will premiere on January 16.
