Setsucon Celebrates Its 16th Anniversary Bringing Anime to Central Pennsylvania

ALTOONA, PA – Setsucon is excited to announce that its sixteenth anniversary convention will be held January 13th-15th, 2023 at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The convention, founded in 2007 and run by the students and alumni of the Penn State Anime Organization, has been within the Central Pennsylvania bounds since its inception and strives to bring premier anime, cosplay, gaming, and Japanese cultural content to the winter months in Pennsylvania.

In its past convention in January 2022, Setsucon saw a growth in its content, including nearly 175 hours or programming (up from 125 in 2020), three concerts, a maid café, expanded exhibitors hall, itasha car show, and much more, putting on an expanded and growing con even through pandemic policies. The convention also saw its charity efforts grow, including playing host to two competitive gaming tournaments for charity with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Guilty Gear Strive, and raising almost $1,000 combined for Extra Life Hershey and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

In its seventeenth year, Setsucon will continue to utilize three days, which it first did in 2022, and is expanding the space it is using at the Blair County Convention Center. Organizers expect to continue on the increase in attendance it has seen in Altoona, as shown by its pre-pandemic 2020 attendance of 1,438 attendees. The convention will look to expand its programming efforts, by bringing in unique events and experiences, while continuing the strive to be family-friendly and affordable.

More information on registration, hotels, and applications for Setsucon 2023 will be available in the coming months and can be found at www.setsucon.com.
