Episode 1141 of One Piece hangs on roughly the same moment as last time but adds in a lot of major callbacks to the mix.
This episode is one that really underlines just how long a series One Piece is. I know most of us are die-hards who are in it for the long haul, and that's part of the charm. But folks… this is a really long series! Dorry and Brogy's arrival is proof positive of that.
Because wow, it has been literal decades since we've seen the Elbaf giants stomping around. Luffy and co met these guys like four anime art styles ago. It's great to see them back in action, stomping through the near-shore waters and tearing up Navy vessels. The very concept of a pirate crew made entirely of Viking giants is very cool on its face. Here we get to see the joyful, destructive goofballery of that idea in action as Dorry and Brogy's giants rip apart the navy and marines without so much as a scratch. Interspersed in this are the flashback sequences to remind us of those early meetings, and while I might normally ding a show for trying to sneak in such prolonged cuts that amount to stuff we've already seen before, here I think it's helpful because these episodes aired before a lot of viewers were even born.
The back half of the episode is largely the Sanji and Luffy show. Luffy knocks Saturn around for a bit and gives Bonney some encouragement, always nice to see. But a lot of this was just the handoff, so to speak, so that Bonney and Franky could leave the scene while Luffy and Sanji set up for the next fight. We do get a brief preview of Sanji's potency with him kicking Borsalino's laser beam out of the air mid-shot - a pretty incredible feat - but that's more teaser than true tangle. It will be interesting to see how this fight shapes up in the coming weeks.
A few other side events happen, too. Zoro and Rob Lucci are still fighting. I wouldn't blame you for forgetting (I did forget). Lucci making note that the Mugiwaras won't leave as long as one of their crew is alive is a pretty poignant observation. I like it when a villain can leverage the heroes' kindness as a weapon. Also, the Catarina scene is important because not only do we see the devious Caribou continue being a devious weirdo, but we get to see more of Catarina Devon - always a win in my book.

This is one of those shows that is more than the sum of its parts. While it uses clichés left and right, it almost always goes beyond them to add an extra layer or two.― Much of The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows is cliché to say the least. We have a standard Western fantasy world, an overpowered hero who doesn't realize he isn't normal, and a harem of demi-human girls all vying for his ...

If you like Junji Ito, it’s a good time to discover Shintaro Kago as well.― All short story collections are mixed bags. That's not a pejorative statement about short stories by any means; it's simply the nature of the beast.
