Not gonna lie, this show really lost my interest in the second half. And I really don't agree about the show looking good at all.

I think we watched a different show, this one doesn't look good like ALWAYS, badly drawn characters most of the time (even in still shots), the backgrounds are awful, and the animation was at some point just drag and drop pngs, the only thing that save this show for me was Carmillas' voice actress (and the novel too, read the novel people).

It's a kind of show that would usually be written off as Harem slop or yet another "Banished from the Heroes Party" anime, yet it's so self-aware, fun, and plays to its strength and has a fairly likeable cast across the board that you can't help but like it.

Carmilla indisputably Best Girl though. I'll make an exception for Krishna.

While it's not the best show ever I still enjoyed watching it almost every week, and Eli Farmer did a good job as Zenos. I agree that the characters are not one-note tropes & each have reasons for acting the way they do. That said I do feel the episode 1 they started with wasn't the best and could've either been put later on in the show's first half or made an OVA or bonus episode. If a S2 is made then hopefully they can take what worked in S1 and improve on it more.

Imo, the girls are mostly one-note walking tropes. Maybe not one of the 'dere's, but I feel like I've seen enough harems to recognise each of their tropes. The only one that somehow feels different is the healer student.

Anyway, I'm all for these kinds of shows with OP MCs despite how annoying the trope can be (especially the one with oblivious MC trying their hardest to deny that they're overpowered while acting innocent like they really know nothing). But this show is actually the first that let me learn not to watch this kind of shows in its entirety scene by scene. It's the first time I sped up or skipped scenes in anime without any sense of regret for losing anything. There maybe justifications for certain scenes being necessary for character/relationship building, but I tried rewatching things I skipped once, and I think I'm good.

Not a fan of the first half, but quite enjoying the second half, and still have a good time with it since it's just my kind of shows.

Well the reviewer liked the show far more then I did. I found the enemies mostly mustache twirling cliches who mainly existed to act as foils to the main character. The ladies are the type of supporting cast that only exists for a mary sue, IE ones who cannot make any point or express any desire that does not involve the main character. He is their entire existence.

Surprisingly positive review. I do agree that the wraith character was a stand-out and that the music was solid, and generally thought the series did well on the character design front.
I'll also give it credit for making at least some attempt to address social issues. However, I didn't feel it did enough to be memorable or worth a second pass.

I'd probably watch a sequel if more gets animated, but it won't be something I'm eagerly looking forward to.

I'd watch more if there is a season 2, but overall it was ok. Probably the oddest thing about it is that I enjoyed the plot of the second half more, but liked what was happening on screen more during the first half.

I must confess that I'm surprised about the negative comments; it's almost as though we were watching a different series.

I dunno; I guess this is one of those series where your mileage will vary.

I will say that I could have done without the harem.
