Jazz music is much the stars as the main cast in this story about teens who become friends in late 1960s Japan. Great sounds and good character development bolster what is otherwise a fairly pedestrian character drama.

I daresay anyone turned off by the first five episodes might want to consider slogging through the next 3 volumes or so; the relatively meaty and fun storyline seems like it might be worth the wait.
