Its a good thing that these are coming out, though the dubs not to bad I, like most anime fans can't stand edits (not to say it was a bad call on VIZs part, they knew that most teenagers who wern't hardcore [naruto fans] wouldnt watch it, however, it would sell well to preteens.).
Frankly, glad as I am about it, its kind of suprising they did it so fast. Gash Bell still hasn't been relesed uncut and thats been out for how long?

I think $50 is very reasonable for 13 episodes

Nice Job SJ!! Dungeon got reamed by the D&D folks for their "subscriber-only" stuff, and Newtype disasterously didn't handle their DVD situation well. Great job on chosing such a horrible idea!!

So you'd rather go the traditional route and buy DVD's one a time with 4 episodes each at approx $29.99 MSRP? (or even 24.95)
hmm... so that means you'd rather spend $80-$90 for those same 13 episodes?
Now keep in mind, with shopping online etc. it means you can probably find that boxset of Naruto for around $30.
As for me, I like the idea of only paying $2-3 per episode as opposed to paying $6-$7 per episode, but maybe that's just me.

LOL! And when did I even say that I will buy them anyway?
I said FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE TO WATCH NARUTO SO MUCH, they should buy the R2s... Not for me.
And why the hell would I support Dubs anyway!? Dubs are something that shouldn't even exist. If the Dub didn't exist than the company that licences anime wouldn not have to spend their money on them. Instead they would licence more anime. So what is a Dub good for again?
And yeah I know that people buy DVDs for content and not for packing. But I think that nicer packing IS INFACT better than an ugly one. Don't you think so? And cover of R1 Naruto DVD is crap compared to R2 cover.
Quote: | ...Uncut normally indicates that it will have the original voice track...and It will Viz has said so...Why would you get R2's if you don't know Japanese when a company is releasing a better R1 set of DVD's... |
In the case the new R1 DVDs turn out to be crap... Because to me, it's better to watch a series in Japanese uncut and not understand it, than to watch a HORRID Dub, which is also cut. I personally don't know Japanese so well that I can understand it completly withut subtitles, but I can make out what the story is about. But even if I couldn't understand a single word, I'd still buy the R2 DVDs. To me, a Dub is just a curse.

You are a minority. Dubs generate sales and revenue - THAT is what allows licensors to license more anime. Dubs are preferred by most anime fans these days because of the exposure they've had on the viewing public in the US. Many of the fans that are around today are due to the results of anime being shown on TV, such as the stuff found on Adult Swim, etc. If not for them, companies wouldn't generate enough DVD sales to be able to license more.
I myself usually prefer the subbed version (about 95% of the time) of most series as it is, but I have nothing against the existence of dubs since I'm not required to watch them. Your reasoning is shallow since you are so obviously oblivious to the facts for the need for dubs, like them or not.

Thanks. Not a bad price. Maybe I will pick it up. The Bandai Anime Legends releases are making all other releases look really bad/expensive.

Why do people jump to conclusions so much?
Hello? How the hell can you judge what I know and what I don't?
I know that Dubs are popular, I just said that I don't like them...

I respect your opinions of dubs, but the logic you put in your previous post is puzzling...

Dubs are important to a region that doesn't like to read, especially America, where people can only pay attention to so much on the screen before giving up. Also, Most, if not all, R1 dvds have English and Japanese audio with English subs, so what's is there really to complain about?
The importance of Dubs is big actually, because the casual fan of anime doesn't put in the Japanese audio and English subs, but they just pop the dvd in their players and play. And the money generated from casual fans (that's probably about 90% of the people who buy the dvds) IS the reason why anime companies can spend more money on more licenses. Why do you think Cowboy Bebop or Trigun or DBZ got so damn popular and why do you think lots of people go to the VA's sessions at Anime conventions, so you might be in the "elistest" of anime fans, but you gotta be realistic about money.
I don't mind that people want the better looking R2 cover art, but would you want to shell out $50+ on R2 cover art on Naruto with probably 2 episodes of content?
I didn't think so...

YOU may not like dubs, but there are some people who just can't live without them (I can). Sometimes the subs will come out a weird way, which in my oppinion the subs are sometimes done poorly. And some people like the dialogue better, cause it's something they know they can hear outright. And besides, subs might be too small sometimes.

They always do stuff like this. One Piece game demo, Dragon Quest game demo, Shonen Jump preview DVDs, and all around free incentives for subscribers. There also isn't a guarantee for something "subscriber only" every month, just every once in a while.
The selling point for Shonen Jump isn't a free DVD like NewType is, so I don't see how this is a "horrible idea."
