Well, that's just your opinion. I don't see Kanon as being loli at all. That being said, I haven't seen all that much of Kanon so far, so perhaps my opinion will change. Anyway, since you pointed that out, I edited my post to say "tend to get distrubed." I love Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan, and I guess that could be considered loli to a degree.

That's alright neither have I. Its loli-ish though, meaning you know the characters are of age and its part of the plot, but the designs for some of the girl look so young as to bely or borderline contradict that fact. Ayu is the worst offender for this followed by Makoto and in the middle is Nayuki and Shiori and Mai don't seem loli at all.

I agree with this sentiment 100%!
I don't generally like to publicly admit that I like moe, because too many people equate it with loli. So I keep that aspect of my anime fandom more or less to myself. Although a listing of my favorite anime series outs me pretty quick-like: Gunslinger Girl (Triela fan here) and Azumanga Daioh top my list. I guess you could argue that GG isn't moe, but then I'd be curious as to your definition of the term.
And yes, I'm looking forward to Haruhi. I'm sure I'll dig it, as my friend who is very much into moe really loves it.

I don't necessarily think it's a male thing. I've always maintained that the driving force behind moe is the protective or parental instinct (the same instinct which, I believe, drives the mind of the pedophile -- only warped and perverted). I think it is quite understandable that both men and women (and parents like us) should find moe charming.
And of course, I chose "I like moe, but I am disturbed by lolicon."

Dammit, Zac! You made me laugh. I've been cultivating a good grump all day, and you just ruined it.

I looked up "moe" in Wikipedia to make sure I had the right idea, and it just refers to it as a love for Anime characters in general and that they're generally recurring themes or different "shades" of moe that people like (ie clumsiness, girls with glasses, etc).
And with that, I basically agree with Jedi General right down to the disgust for loli:

Dateline does that? I've seen the show a few times and never seen them mention what's been found in their homes, hentai or otherwise. I certainly hope they don't discover and use some guy's anime picture collection on the show, the results will be horrible on the community at large...
Person A: I'm a fan of anime.
Person B: Oh that, I saw that on To Catch a Predator.

So do I... and, since not everyone here can be expected to know what (among other things) is meant by heiki musume, perhaps a little example is in order.

My opinion on moe-related stuff is that it's just like any other genre of anime. There's good stuff and there's bad stuff. I think some series like Rozen Maiden and Petite Princess Yucie offer really good characterization and are quite enjoyable (and hate it when such shows get spat on just because some of the fans may be creepy) but then a lot of the other stuff in the genre really is vapid in my opinion with cardboard cutout archetypal characters.
So, I guess the more moderate-sounding option in support of moe is more along the lines of what I think.

Those series also have things other than Moe to keep them afloat though. There are a lot of series (mostly H-Game conversions) that rather have nothing else to speak for them other than the characters are really cutesy and desirable.
One I can think of of the top of my head is Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight where only the main character stands out and the rest are just moe stereotypes like the Tsundere, the timid girl, the tomboy with a heart of gold and nothing really happens. Where as something like Rozen Maiden as you've said has limited dueling between the dolls and some pretty good character development moments where moe is completely absent to offset all the moments where Hinaichigo is grumbling or Suiseiseki is doing the desu routine. The latter style is starting to assert itself more lately regarding the Moe "genre" and its really raised my tolerance levels for it greatly in the past couple of months.
One small thing regarding the poll. It's given me the option to vote three times now as I've gone back to check the results. I may have voted twice because I thought it might not have gone through, but the third time it gave me the choice I knew something was up.

Which bit of Moe are you most attracted to? I remember in the Moe tournament held on this site Nana(Elfen Lied) won and I think the reason was the whole desire to help someone who really needed it. The bigger version of this event though had a different winner and they won based upon the feeling of cuteness as opposed to parental desire.
I voted for the moe good. Loli bad option.
But why do I like Moe? Is it cuteness or the desire to protect?
For me it is the desire to protect, I didn't get my chance at this and so I kind of project. Obviously cuteness makes it a lot easier to feel moe though.
If a series only has moe going for it then I can't see it being very good. (I can't think of any series that are ONLY moe though) But moe within a series, as long as it is handled well and should be there, there are times when moe sould be there and times when it shouldn't.

I'll agree there - it seems even shows of its caliber get some flack just from being related to the whole phenomenon, though, which is why I've become a little agitated over the "moe" stereotyping thing lately. I've seen some really ignorant opinions on it here and elsewhere.
I like stuff like Hinaichigo grumbling to a certain extent - it's cute and in some instance may build sympathy for the characters. I think it's better there than not at all. But when something like that becomes the whole show, then its problematic. It's all about striking a balance when it comes to these kind of series, and that's one reason why I think shows like Rozen Maiden are so great.

I personally voted the "I like moe, but blending with loli makes it disturbing" option, for the reasons posted above and for the reason why I like moe in the first place. When it gets blended with loli, I think it spoils my interpretation of moe in the first place; that is, the somewhat parental desire to protect and/or support that character due to their "moe" status. When loli is mixed in, there is obviously some sort of breach of that barrier that patriarchal (or matriarchal) protection puts up, and the situation suddenly goes from "Aww" to "Urm." I find loli quite disturbing, and though it may come from the twisted interpretation of the parental instinct as abunai said, the twisted part must be emphasized in description. Loli is just way too close to pedophilia, and though it is supposedly "victimless" as the supreme court decided (if I recall correctly), it still leads to a further indulgence of the fetish, which is obviously a very bad thing.
Moe also seems to be spoiled at times by the loli aspects, as the pandering of the producers to that group seems to warp moe into something it shouldn't be. Whether the classification of moe was to be close to loli in the first place is debatable, but I stand on the assumption that we are trying to move moe towards a less "loli" atmosphere that emphasizes the more protective or passively affectionate aspect of the genre. It's fine to think a character is "kawaii" or whatnot, but once the line into loli is crossed, I think it should no longer be considered "moe," as the distinction of the genre has been warped into that of loli. Moe should be almost entirely nonsexual, whether it be in a protective way or an affectionate way.
I think the current association of moe with loli elements is overall hurting the genre, and definitely stand by the assertion that we should eliminate those elements from the genre to make it its own if we are to continue using it as part of the draw for series.

I love loli more... non-H loli, but loli nonetheless. It's also the closest thing this thread has to loli-moe which is my preferred poison.
