I don't see why anyone would be surprised at this point that none of these have Asian actors in them. Minority actors always get screwed in Hollywood, and they're not going to cast minorities in a starring role of a potential movie franchise like this, even if it originated in an Asian country.

Of course Johanson would work well as Black Widow, the entire point of the character was T&A. Problem is the Major isn't just fanservice. Johanson without pants can only carry a movie so far.

If Scarlett gets the role, we may see a 10 second nipple scene(she would be okay with it from a past role).

Don't really want to be "that guy," but come on. A blond Caucasian woman as a character named "Motoko"? Kind of bogus.

She obviously won't be called Makoto, they'll Americanize her name like Tom Cruise's character in Edge of Tomorrow compared to the source material. At best, Makoto will be a government code name they name drop or something.

How would the comic book community feel, if Japan made an ironman movie with asian actors, they would be up in arms
I hate the American comic book community, but they have a spine, we don't

Wouldn't it be great if Sigourney Weaver was still young, she would of been perfect for the role.

Up in arms? Oh please, they don't even stand up for their own source material when someone like Quesada screws with the continuity. They wont be up in arms over anything. Don't see any of them rallying in the streets protest Disk Wars or anything. Though it probably helps Disk Wars is better than any cartoon Disney has done with the property since the buyout

Given that the Major's body is artificial, if it looks Caucasian, it's not a big deal. She just happened to get the Scarlett Johansson model, a high end one.
I mean, the whole point is her ghost, not her shell.
It's the writing and directing I'm concerned about.

Scarlett Johansson has the perfect blank, expressionless face for the role of the Major. And a slammin' bod, like the Major.
Yes, she'd do quite nicely.

Regarding Sigourney Weaver, yes, if it was 25 years ago, she would be the absolute obvious choice for this role.
As for the point about the lack of Asian actors, that's par for the course in Hollywood. If it's not specifically a martial arts movie with someone like Jackie Chan or Jet Li, you aren't likely to see Asian actors in leading roles.
I think Ms. Johansson could do a very good job in GitS, and she will certainly help pack the audiences with young American males, which will ultimately be the goal of the studio. That being said, it will have a different feel to it than the manga/anime.

So it'd be Ghost in the Shell starring Lucy or a blonde/brunette/bald Black Widow? Sounds whatever the opposite of exciting is.
You can either have acting or a "fill in the blank" character and I've never been impressed by Johansson's acting even if I've seen her roles {Movies? Please} since, sigh, Eight Legged Freaks and The Man Who Wasn't There.
Lips and that's about it.
I'm a fan of the character and the ideas behind it though I hate the Major from SAC. Who'd I pick if "don't do it" is not an option would be a man to prove it's not about the fanservice.
Yeah, that's not going to happen...

While the I think she's a decent choice,I really don't have high hopes for it considering the director. I think it's just going to end up being some mindless action flick.

I know I'm going to get criticized for this but I've never understood why people get upset when they use non-asian actors for a western remake of whatever they are adapting from anime/mange. I mean I understand why people want asian actors but it's a western adaption. I wouldn't care if Japan used Japanese actors if they made their own adaption of a western mvoie
