While I'm sure there will be all kinds of controversy around Redo in the days ahead, the most interesting aspect about the first episode was seeing James's review and him talking about characters being off-model.

For whatever reason, I missed the memo on what it means for something to be off-model until now. It's a common enough criticism to find, but it's the kind of criticism I would gloss over as it is outside my area of expertise.

So it was a little amusing to look it up and be bombarded with art lessons. Laughing

I might pause Wonder Egg Priority. I’m not feeling too good atm as the spoiler[suicide themes ] might be uncomfortable for me whilst I’m in this state of mind.

It’s more than likely to be a title that will be picked up for the weekly reviews. If it did get picked up, I wanted to follow the reviews but at the moment, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to follow along...

I'd rather marathon a GoHands anime than sit through this again.

Yikes. Coming from James, that's a very damning review...

I was prepared for people to defend the wish fulfillment of Redo of Healer, but I'm actually shocked that anyone would defend it as having "good writing".

i have two issues with the rape of the rape hero reviews.

one is that they mention consensual sex ,iirc its not consensual if one person is using brainwashing, or maybe they changed that bit in the anime?
also, how can a show be divisive if nobody likes it? this is not goblin slayer or shield hero, i have yet to stumble upon a person who likes and/or defends this show.

If I'm understanding correctly, I think you haven't watched the episode. There's no brainwashing in the one sex scene in the first episode. Just an enthusiastic maid and the protagonist.

... In this story's world power/levels are gained from having non-consensual sex with a "hero" -particularly with our hero...
What this first episode showed was his 2nd go around with the maids, and being an anime adaption, with some was exposition,a few lines changed to make the sex more consensual. In his first life, well there should be flashbacks....

In fact it's too soon to say the anime is going to dodge the non-consensual sex,as that'll start in the 2nd episode.

One thing I noticed,or just missed, was his "little sister" & sexual partner is not in the opening. So perhaps the anime chose to clean up the underage sex scenes.

Edit: I've read several volumes & chapters of the LN and manga respectively.
The reviewer whom called this story "rape porn" is dead on.

I searched this entire thread for a Pui Pui Molcar reference and didn't find a single one! :( Y'all are missing out. Guinea pigs that are also cars! Just give it Show of the Year now and save the next 11.5 months the trouble.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and guess that Dupree has never watched a reaction video.

Watched the "uncensored version" of redo of a healer and have to say it was pretty darn boring as a first episode. :/

Expected more from it, let's how the second episode fares if it stays this tame then the anime is just a waste of time.

As far as the ATX airing, I've not read the original novel, only the manga, so unless the manga is also very toned down, the first episode of the anime was mostly faithful to first few chapters of the manga. The only sex scene so far was the one with the maid. A few other tidbits were rushed though a bit, like the exposition of game mechanics and background of the kingdom, as well as some of the abuse Keyaru went through, but those could always be expanded upon in future episodes.

So far it seemed like an okay adaption. The next episode will be a much better judge of he content levels. If we're being technically, the anime actually added more sex since Keyaru never slept with multiple maids in the manga, just the one. But overall, the manga starts out pretty slow as well so the anime is just following the same pace.

Here's an ANN Anime News Nina comic strip that touches on it, it may be good for a laugh:

I think there was another one about the fourth episode 'bad quality' curse, it was kinda similar as best as I can remember.

After remembering how things went with Cross Ange, Redo of Healer's reviews went as I expected. Everyone ranks into the dirt, except Theron who has a more chill middling take.

while the visual style heavily resembles Yamada's, including the cute girls with an emphasis on character acting and dramatic lighting, and both creators' fondness for queer themes.

If Yamada directing Bluebird counts as "fondness for queer themes" then we might as well call bushiroad and the entire kpop industry champions of gay rep lol

So kemono Jihen start with a guy going to an inn, specifically requesting that a specific little boy take care him (bring him food, wash his back). I'm calling the cop.

RIGHT?!
Don’t get me wrong; I mostly? liked the episode, but those scenarios were *creepy* and I was surprised that none of the reviewers brought up just how creepy it was (or would have been, without the supernatural explanation). I want to yell at the mom not to send little boys to wait on stranger adult men in private, *in the bath*.

As I understand, sending son to serve customer in the bath is hardly weird given that Japan was pretty used to bath nudity and this is countryside, so probably still more old-timey , so people - pretty reasonably - just don't make big deal of bath nudity, and customer are supposed to be taken care of. He doesn't ask for "specific little boy", just for the other one then the one currently helping him. Making the showing of tail into something sexual is weird too. I suspect the original comment was more of a joke, and not sure how much this one is, but it's all pretty normal once you remove certain cultural preconception about bath time=sexual.

I’m well aware of Japanese culture’s view of bathing and hot springs, but usually either a child is bathing with a parent, or, at a hot springs with strangers, with a group. The last time I saw a scene of a little boy bathing with a (singular) man who wasn’t his father, it was in JoJo’s Diamond is Unbreakable, and the man was a villain trying to attack the boy.

I’m not saying that this show meant to set off any alarm bells, just that it was (unintentionally) creepy to me. I’m still planning to give the next couple of episodes a chance (it might be too mystery focused or dour in tone for my taste, I’m not trying to imply that it’s actually problematic)

UMMM didn't even the fans not care that much about that series after it stopped having so much edge rape in the second half. And yes I absolutely am one of those people who hated that series.
