Yeah, better get those figurines before they sell out. I'm sure they'll be even more expensive than normal too.

Reading one story after the other how the franchise "excels" at big breasts now leaves me feeling very vindicated and i am not sure if it´s good promotion or not if the most famous aspect of your work is the female leads rack if your franchise isn´t supposed to be a porno. Hm. |
This is a meme. That's how memes work: Totally random and focusing on one specific thing. It's not even on Hestia's sexual suggestiveness, just on a really weird item of clothing she has.
There's no such thing as bad publicity.

Or Tetsuya Nomura's infamous zippers and belts. What does Donald Duck need zippers on his hat for?

This isn't going to become another one of those new fads is it? String to lift boobs? You must be joking.
This is a very good example of how a show can become known without story but characters instead. I myself haven't watched Is it wrong to try and pick up girls in the dungeons? yet, but I'm very tempted just by seeing Hestia's design.

Oh yeah, forgot about the zipper fetish. Y'know the more I look at this I can't help but laugh. It reminds you of that person that has an extra piece of material and they don't want to throw it away so they just find a place to put it. And then when they present it it's like..."OH MY GAWD, THIS IS GORGEOUS". I gotta hand it to the Japanese, they are the masters of making something that looks totally useless where you're scratching your head, entertaining. The key is...MARKETING AND MEMES.

When it comes to making beauty or cuteness with simple materials, I gotta give credit to Japan. I'm sure that if they keep coming up with designs like these I might lose interest in real world girls forever.

I've always found it pretty weird that Japan (and to a lesser extent, Korea) have their female pop singers wear these elaborate, frilly dresses and keep a kayfabe of innocent pureness, as American female pop singers, Lady Gaga notwithstanding, are the total opposite: They will most often wear normal, everyday clothing (albeit very expensive designer everyday clothing) and keep a naughty air around them.
I must wonder how the American mainstream would respond to these kinds of outlandish outfits, as it's been so long since the original Sailor Moon anime put anime clothes into the general public. Even superheroes keep things rather plain.

Superheros have fairly boring designs mostly because the later designs are mostly following the general air set by the earlier ones, which were mostly practical, lifting the tights-and-underwear thing from circus performers. The up-armored designs used in movies tend to cut into the actors' mobility(sometimes heavily), but that seems to be the only other direction things are headed at the moment.

I think culture wise, Japan and America are almost like polar opposites. Like leafy sea dragon said, Japan's pop stars wear elaborate, frilly dresses while American pop stars wear normal clothes. Japanese children are much more independent while American children are much more dependent upon their parents. The birth rate in Japan is plummeting while the birth rate in America is skyrocketing. Japanese men like 2D, American men like 3D. The Japanese favor tradition, the Americans favor new things. The list can go on and on. This can either be good or bad depending on how much something goes against the ideals of the other. Imho, the American mainstream would probably reject the outlandish outfits such as those of Japan.
