O.O oh my... I hope she'll get well soon. I love her music. She made Higurashi even better with her music. Good to know that it can be cured.

Nah, she should be fine. I had thyroid cancer four years ago and had a partial thyroidectomy, and unless the surgeon nicks something accidentally, it doesn't change your voice at all.
It really is the "best" kind of cancer to get-- easy to treat and rarely reoccurs.

I was really horrifically scared, until I read everyones replies. I'm really happy to know that this is easily curable. I wish her all of the best and a fast recovery. She is definitely one of my favorite singers as well.
I'm going to follow this as best as I can.

Man, this just makes me sick in my heart. She's a helluva singer, and quite frankly, I've had enough musical deaths this year. kaizoku00, you get +1000 points for giving me hope that she can pull through this.
Get better, Eiko! I'm pulling for you!

When I was little, my mom had to get her thyroid removed. After she recovered from the surgery, she was completely fine and has had no problems with it since (though she does take medication to replace the thyroid hormone she can't make). Her voice was not affected.
I wish Eiko Shimamiya a speedy recovery as well.
