Media Blasters is releasing Kite on Blu-ray this month and I'm thinking of getting a copy. The thing is, they are releasing two editions: a regular edition (with no NSFW stuff) and an adult oriented director's edition (with all the porn and stuff). This got me confused. Wasn't the director's cut the version without all the obscene scenes? I remember that he only added these scenes because the production company made him do it and didn't actually wanted sexual imagery in the finished product. I don't want the pornographic version, but I have concerns about the regular edition being censored (as in having no blood shown and removing too many scenes).
Can anyone who has the DVD version of any of those comment on these issues?

DVD (edited) version still had blood in it.
I would get the unedited version personally, the sex clips aren't too long and they seem to bring the story together better.
...though if you've never seen Kite, I would definitely not recommend a blind purchase.

Having both versions, I am left wondering if APPLE 01 DOJ is deliberately pulling your leg. Unless you want hentai, I see little point in getting the uncut version. The sex scenes disrupt the flow of the story. Like most porn they are about performance, not storytelling. The main character - Sawa - goes from subject to object. Irrespective of any ideological stance, it's quite jarring. Only one of the sex scenes could be justified from a plot point of view but that particular scene isn't absolutely essential. That Sawa is sexually abused by the main male character is apparent without having to watch the cut scenes.
The cut version still has plenty of violence, blood and brooding sexuality to ensure that in Australia it can only be sold to people over 18. It's a beautiful, grimy, disturbing, excessive anime.

The sex might be a turn off or just wholly off-putting, but for Kite it's actually integral to the story, showing how Oburi corrupts and controls Sawa. It's disturbing and off-putting sex for a reason, unlike Mezzo Forte when it's easily cut the story is not interrupted. Sorry to say, but for Kite you really should go for the uncut one.

What's more disappointing is the fact the bluray could easily hold both versions. It's a shame, but I feel this is just a blatant disregard to the remaining buying market to try and lure them into purchasing both versions so they can make the call themselves of which is the better.
I've not seen either, but this is one of the few times I'd highly recommend you fan sub both versions, then buy the one you prefer.
Thank [expletive] goodness for fansub sites to help out in a situation like this.

You are confusing Mezzo Forte with Kite. The sex scenes in Mezzo Forte could be edited out and you wouldn't even know they were gone, from a story standpoint. As somebody has already said, at least the sex scenes in Kite have a logic to them that is organic to the story. Whether they are needed to make the point is a different, subjective matter. Also, I would take Metsu's claim that the producers of Mezzo Forte "forced" him to put in those sex scenes with a grain of salt. For a guy who was "forced" into it, he sure made sure that those scenes were lovingly rendered.

Haven't seen Kite yet (have it on backorder), but the sex scenes in Mezzoforte were so forced in there, they had to write some total BS into the story to justify how it even made any sense to be there It was just a dream, or it was just a robot that looked like the main character. Talk about shoehorned in excuses to fit those scenes in to an otherwise fun action show. It did seem to me that whoever decided to put those scenes in obviously liked that stuff. They weren't short segments lacking detail.

For sure. And if Mezzo Forte is anything to go by, apparently Japanese men have penises the size of baseball bats. Did not know that.

don't forget the logic that it always fits no matter the lady says.
On subject..well yeah the uncut version is best because the sex is actually essential to the story for how mc broke down the female mc "sorry my mind is blank on their names" and made her into killer even though he was the one that killed her parents. It really explores a dark side of humanity we don't like to talk about but it think Kite did it will.

For Kite, it's not really so much that the sex scenes exist, but that they're graphic and explicit that I can understand why people value the claim that Umetsu was forced to include them for funding. They needn't show the penises and vaginas interacting in such a way, but that's how it goes. If that's going to turn any would-be buyers off, you probably shouldn't watch Kite to begin with.
For Mezzo Forte, if that were to get a BD release, it's safe to go right ahead and get the cut version.

I would think this would be common knowledge given how these artists can turn Dolly Parton into a flat chest girl by comparison.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I did watch Kite way back when it was released. I remembered liking the plot but disliking the porn so much that it ruined some of the movie for me.

I can understand what you are trying to say, but since there are two versions out there somebody must have thought that a censored version will sell to those exact people who would never have watched Kite otherwise.
As for what I'll do...I think I'll get the uncut version and fast forward all the obscene parts.

My TRSI order for the uncut BD was just canceled moments ago "per the manufacturer." Same story as Ikki Great Guardians a few weeks ago.
Yet another bad sign for Media Blasters if they are canceling or indefinitely delaying titles that would seem to be profitable.

well it can't be helped i suppose I figured this coming you might want to inform some here to they can do small article. I really wish media blasters would sell the rest of their assets to funimation or sentai-filmworks or merge so they could some of those series afloat... welp.

I had both of these shows on order too. Guess no point in holding my breath, and will cross these off the list.
