Hi!

For all you anime lovers out there, the Singapore Art Museum is opening a new revolutionary exhibition called Fiction@Love which features contemporary popular culture such as comics, graphic design, animation, manga and anime in art.

Basically, this exhibit features a lot of amazing artwork by artists you may recognize, like Yoshitaka Amano, Kwon Kisoo, Ai Yamaguchi (who did the artwork for Shu Uemura's range of cosmetics called Shu by Ai), and Jimmy or Ji Mi (who wrote Turn Left, Turn Right, the book made into the movie which starred Takeshi Kaneshiro and Gigi Leung). It will open on the 17th of May and continue up to 9th July.

Other artists include: Singapore contemporary artists Claire, Lim, Lim Shing Ee, fFurious, Joanne Lim and ZERO; Chinese artists Chen Fei, Gao Xiaowu, Qian Gang; Taiwanese artist Pan Chen-ju, Japanese artists Yayoi Kusama and On/Megumi Akiyoshi, Korean artist Lee Minkyu, Malaysian art collective www.theclickproject.com, Danish artist Trine Boesen, American artist Nathaniel Lord and other artists from the Nokia ‘Connect to Art’ Initiative.

Here are some pictures to whet your appetite!

Fiction @ Love – Dreams @ Work

The forum seeks to explore the impact of pop, cyber culture and art on youths. Throughout Asia and the world, the youths of today are becoming a generation who cannot imagine life without email, internet, TV and movies, stars and icons, animation and pop art. This fictitious world is more real then real life to these "digital natives", where they project their own thoughts, feelings and dreams, in search of repose of mind and spiritual sustenance. The forum will look at the images and information which are derivatives of this fictitious world, and examine its influence on cultural trends and inter-personal relations. It will also suggest how youths of today can transform their dreams into an impetus in life, and a tangible goal for the future. The speakers shall draw heavily from their own personal experiences, and interesting references will be made to the animations and comics from the on-going exhibition at the Singapore Art Museum “Fiction @ Love”, as well as familiar images from pop and cyber culture.

17 June (Saturday), 2.00 – 5.00pm, Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Level 3
