Yeah America has some very harsh rating compared to most countries. As far as languages concern there wasn't southpark amounts, but they did use the magic four letter word.

But the violence is defintely up there with R ratings if you ask me.

I live in Canada and I'm watching it on TV. I can definitely say, it is for at least for a 14 year old. It seems to spill close to as much blood as the Rurouni Kenshin OVA's (that sound right to people who have watched the DVD's?).

Okay, as someone with no life, I know the rating system well (at least within my own province). Now, this is just my humble but Basilisk (IMO) is less violent/gory than Trinity Blood which was 14A here in Canada's most conservitive province (as a liberal, living here is a bit of a neucince. Back onto topic...), of course, that's not to say that Basilisk doesn't deserve a 14A as well, I just think an R (or an 18A for that matter) is a bit high. Then again, while it wasn't rated in my own province, in Ontaio Samurai X was rated R for brutal violence. So by that standerd Basilisk would probably be an 18A.

Side note: Film ratings between Canada and USA:
G=G, PG
PG=PG, PG-13
14A=PG-13, R
18A=R
R=R, NC-17

Edit: I've been meaning to comment on this before but constantly forgot:

I had to go with 18+ for this series, I have volume one and it's very violent, love four letter words, and there has been a lot of sexual comments to down right scenes of force sexual acts.
Here, far as I know, sexual inuendo, no matter how strong, will never be enough to merrit any more than a 14+. To merrit an 18+ there needs to have (at the very least) soft-core porn/frontal nudity. Also the only network that seems to have any trouble with dropping the f-bomb on a 14+ show* is Youth Television (YTV) and even they get away with more language than [adult swim] (they can drop the "s-bomb" at will and aired the entire GitS: SAC series with only two edits). As for violence, our standerds ar doubled and across the board so I'm not sure quite what that would earn it but I don't think I've ever seen a show rated 18+ just for violence.

*Note, as far as I know, they can only drop it twice but I only say that because that's the most I've ever heard on a 14+ show.

Actually, while Trinity Blood, (so far from what I've seen) seems to spill as much blood as Basilisk. It's tone is far less dark, it swears less, and violence is not as frequent.

Have you ever seen The Devil's Advocate (Keeanu Reeves)? Some could argue that movie is so bad it deserves an X rating (lots of nudity, blood, and well, very unholy). Yet it came here under 14+ (I don't know what it got in America, though)! Sometimes I think this country's ratings system is incredibly flawed.

The US got an R rating for this movie, I am not sure if there was an uncut version of the movie for DVD. Wow Canada certainly has some very easy ratings.....make me worry about the folks up north.

They do swear less and the violence is less frequent, however, when there is violence, it seems stronger that basilisk IMHO.

Nope, havn't seen it. Checking MPAA website...checking...checking...found! Rated R for sexuality, nudity, violence and language. And in Canada....:Rating: 18A, Advisory: Violence; suggestive scenes.

I think th 14+ was on TV while the 18A was the DVD rating.

Anyways, here's a list of crime rates in major Canadian and American cities:

Crime Rates - Toronto vs. Selected North American Cities
(per 100,000 population)
Cities Homicides Robberies
Baltimore, MD 41.9 673.2
Washington, DC 40.4 660.5
Detroit, MI 39.4 627.0
Atlanta, GA 34.2 858.5
Philadelphia, PA 23.3 642.9
Miami, FL 19.4 767.2
Dallas, TX 18.4 647.0
Chicago, IL 15.6 554.6
Minneapolis, MN 12.1 579.0
San Francisco, CA 8.9 397.0
Boston, MA 6.6 467.8
Vancouver, BC 3.0 150.0
Montreal, QC 2.0 150.0
Toronto, ON 2.0 105.0

And here's a graph:

Please note that the three Canadian cities (one of which is the crime capital of Canada) have the lowest crime rates per 100 000 people. In short, no need to worry about us Very Happy. Thanks for the thought though.

Don't forget that all of the US cities have the right to arms.....so that going to miscue the numbers a bit, but still I don't think it's enough to change that Canada is a much more quiet neighborhood compare to the US....Beside it's damn cold in Canada can't rob someone if your freezing your A$$ off.
Till next time,

Yes, I saw it on TV, but I can hardly imagine they cut anything from it. Unrated DVD or not. That is really weird though, because I'm pretty sure even Case Closed is 14+ on YTV. LOL!

I don't think that Case Closed is 14+ on YTV because I live in Canada and although I've never watched Case Closed on YTV I don't think it's 14+ on YTV because I did watch their showing of Princess Mononoke and they showed the entire movie uncut and only rated it PG.

Yeah, but - like I said - Canada's (and YTV's for that matter) rating system is messed up. It shows on my Princess Mononoke DVD that it's 14A (And I know they played it uncut on YTV). Also Case Closed is told as a disclaimer "Intended for an older teen audience". While other shows like Gundam SEED and Fullmetal Alchemist are told "Intended for an older "youth" audience".

I do know Mononoke (and other shows) is more violent and gory than CC, but we should both know that YTV also has a screw loose a lot of the time too.
