I rated it "Masterpiece" (11/11) because it works on so many levels. See "Seen/Read All (public list)" for details.
Added the following observation to my entry:

So I was re-watching parts of the series and I was struck by the realization that the 1st and last episodes neatly bookend the series: The 1st episode shows Reki finding Rakka's cocoon and the last episode shows Rakka finding two cocoons sprouting. I am shocked that I never made the connection before!
