posted on by Joanna Cayanan
Koei Tecmo Games' Ruby Party brand announced on Tuesday Harukanaru Toki no Naka de: Ryūgū no Miko (Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time: The Priestess of the Dragon Palace), a new mobile game in KOEI's Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time (Harukanaru Toki no Naka de) romance adventure game franchise slated for iOS and Android this winter.
The new game's story centers on a modern-day college student caught in a record-breaking storm while on a trip to the historical Dan-no-ura site in southern Japan. Above, she sees a sky teeming with countless monsters. A dashing man in a kimono protects her from the monsters and brings her into the sea to the underwater city ruled by a dragon god. The dragon god chooses her as his priestess, and she embarks on a journey to save time and space with the Hachiyō — heroes whose names are etched in history.
Tohko Mizuno, the artist for several manga adaptations of the game franchise, is the new game's key character designer. Other character designers for the game include Bekko, Zerogo Iwamoto, Yomi, and Koei Tecmo Games' Jellyfish group, with special thanks to Miniwa. Hayate Kuku is designing the games' "Eight Million Gods."
The game's cast members are:
- Asami Seto as Akari Yuikawa (the protagonist whose name the player can change)
- Katsuyuki Miura as Minamotono Yoritomo (historical Japanese names presented here in traditional Japanese order)
- Kikunosuke Toya as Tairano Kiyomori
- Takeaki Masuyama as Uesugi Kenshin
- Ryūichi Kijima as Date Masamune
- Yuuto Suzuki as Katsura Kogoro
- Ryōta Suzuki as Hijikata Toshizo
- Ikue Ōtani as Tamaki
- Houko Kuwashima as a mysterious Benevolent Person
- Hiro Shimono as a fire-wielding Invader
The new game will be free to play, with fees for in-game items.
KOEI's Harukanaru Toki no Naka de romance adventure game franchise has inspired a number of game follow-ups, original video anime, and manga. The 2004-2005 television anime Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time – A Tale of the Eight Guardians is based on the first PlayStation game. Bandai Entertainment previously released the television anime in North America, and Tubi TV later streamed the anime.
The Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 6 game shipped in Japan for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable in March 2015. A new version of the game for the Nintendo Switch shipped in March 2019. The manga adaptation of the game ended in January 2019. A stage play adaptation of the game ran in June 2019.
The Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 7 (Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time 7) game launched in Japan in 2020 for the Nintendo Switch.
