I'm sure the video is nice and everything but do you KNOW how much a 24-inch Cintiq tablet costs????? $2,000+!!! Yeah, the tool costs as much as a nicely-equipped computer on its own!
Thanks, but I'll stick to more economical drawing tablets like the Intuous and Bamboo. All the gizmos get made obsolete by developments in software and sensitivity -- today's tablets are much more sensitive than the tablets 10 years ago were AND they're getting to the point that they reproduce pencil strokes almost as well as drawing on paper (!) -- but they still don't generally cost as much as the computer itself like the Cintiq does. It's a lot less painful to replace a $150-$250 touch pad than it is a $2k+ piece of hardware every 3 years ! Very few people own their own Cintiqs. They usually get use of them through work if they're employed by a studio like Disney... I know of only one person who actually bought her own personal Cintiq but she had to do that as a Kickstarter project! Would be nice if the Cintiqs could be made as easily upgradeable as most desktops are component-wise (CPU, drives, memory, etc.) but I have heard bad stories about compatibility issues with some more popular drawing and image editing software like Photoshop. Sorry to derail the topic a bit here but I wish there was some detail in the article about how "cheap" this technology really is! I, for one, also doubt the character designer owns his own Cintiq, too. |

Yeah, the Cintiq 24HD retails for $2,599, while the touch version is $3,699. They are also not being discounted much (about $100) in street prices too. |

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!
I fin this kind of "drawing" (if it can even be called that) to be totally soulless, devoid of any love and personality. Next thing we know, software will be able to do the "drawing" without any "artist", who need them when we are en route to leave all to hardware and software. |

I like the Anohana artwork, so it's nice to see it being drawn by one of the the illustrators. It won't convince me to spend £2000+ on a Cintiq though!
I got my Aiptek a few days ago and I really like it. It's nice to draw without your hand in the way. |

Actually, I'm sure this guy owns one... he probably got one for free in exchange for agreeing to do this video. 
But seriously, one of my coworkers is a graphic artist. Work got him one but it has to stay at work, so he got his own for home use. Said it was every Christmas present for the next 10 years. But it wouldn't surprise me that people who do digital art professionally would actually buy one. Any traditional artist can attest for how much paint and canvases are, so it's the same kind of thing. (Though personally, I agree with you that the touchpads are perfectly fine. I've even had to do work with an ordinary mouse lately, since I can no longer find drivers for my old tablet.) |

Hahaha, aren't you the person who recently completely misunderstood what "hand drawn animation" means? How do you watch a video of someone spending 50~ minutes drawing a picture (by hand!) and come to the conclusion "THIS ISN'T EVEN DRAWING! COMPUTERS ARE TAKING OVER!" you crazy person? |

Obviously you've never tried your hand at digital drawing before, otherwise you wouldn't be spouting this nonsense. The program and tablet don't do the work for you. AT ALL. The program provides you with a blank canvas, some tools, and colours. The rest is up to the user. If you're not good at drawing on paper, you won't be good at drawing on the computer either. Your statement is incredibly insulting to people who use digital as their medium of choice, as well as ignorant. Edit: I'd love to get a Cintiq, but I don't draw enough to justify getting one. Guess I'm stuck with my poor duct-tape patched Intuos. |

Lol you told him right. But I can understand about the conventional medium. One should not simply approach the digital without getting to know the traditional ways better and deeper. I won't say that because of anything. It'll be just a shame, not having your time spent enough on the traditional medium. There's so much you can bring from mastering it better, to improve your overall sense and those "soft-touches" on the digital medium. |
