Another Magazine Sells Out Thanks to Mr. Osomatsu

posted on by Eric Stimson
May issue of Da Vinci features Mr. Osomatsu bookmarks, interviews, spin-off story

The May issue of Da Vinci magazine, which went on sale April 6, has sold out of its 140,000-copy print run. It featured actor Yō Ōizumi, who's appeared in anime like Nasu: Summer in Andalusia, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, and Brave Story, on the cover. But he's probably not why the magazine sold out.

The issue focuses on Mr. Osomatsu, and includes a cover illustration of the six Matsuno brothers by their character designer, Naoyuki Asano. This illustration was also used for bookmarks available with the magazine. The issue contains interviews with Asano, Daisuke Ono (Jūshimatsu), Miyu Irino (Todomatsu), Studio Pierrot producer Sadahiko Tominaga, manga critic Haruyuki Nakano, and Masako Shitara, who draws the manga adaptation of Mr. Osomatsu. It also contains a spin-off story of Mr. Osomatsu's Episode 8 by mystery writer Otsuichi, a retrospective of Mr. Osomatsu that looks back at its source material, Osomatsu-kun, and Asano's take on singer Gen Hoshino (who becomes "Hoshinomatsu").

The bookmarks

Mr. Osomatsu has a tendency of making magazines sell through the roof. Pash! magazine enjoyed its highest-ever print run when it featured Mr. Osomatsu in March, and Otomedia and Animage magazines also ordered extra print runs for their Osomatsu features. The Matsuno brothers got in touch with their inner Sailor Guardians in the May issue of YOU magazine. Mr. Osomatsu also had a successful crossover with Boys Over Flowers in the February issue of Margaret.
