Pop Team Epic's Stream Spoofs The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's 'Endless Eight' Episodes

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The eighth episode of Pop Team Epic will premiere on Sunday at 1:00 a.m. To mark the debut, streaming service AbemaTV, which streams new episodes of the series every week, will stream the new episode eight times in a row in an "endless broadcast." Although there is no confirmation on AbemaTV's official website, the move appears to be inspired by the "Endless Eight" episodes from the 2009 The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya series from 2009 has a series of eight episodes that are essentially the same. The characters are stuck in a time loop that Kyon eventually figures out how to break free from. Most of the content in the episodes repeats with a few variations, and the voice cast recorded new audio for every episode.

Episode 8 of Pop Team Epic will stream on AbemaTV continuously from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. on February 25. However, episodes of the anime are already divided into two repetitive parts. The voice cast for Popuko and Pipimi changes between the two parts, but they feature essentially the same content. Therefore, fans who watch the entire "endless broadcast" will see the same segments a total of 16 times.

News of the special stream created a stir online, and fans are speculating about the voice cast. Many fans believe the cast of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya may star in the upcoming episode.

Pop Team Epic premiered on January 6, and the seventh episode, "Hellshake Yano," debuted last Sunday. AC-bu's live-action "Hellshake Yano" segment created a meme and Twitter trend shortly after its premiere.
