Digimon Universe Appli Monsters 3DS Game's 1st Promo Video Streamed

"Deck battle RPG's" advance version launches this fall

The official website for the Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters Nintendo 3DS game began streaming its first promotional video on Friday. The video previews characters, basic gameplay, and the "Digimon Universe Cyber Arena" advance version of the game.

An advance "Digimon Universe Cyber Arena" version of the game will launch this fall. As with the full packaged version of the game, the advance version will be compatible with Appmon chips to acquire specific Appmon.

Bandai Namco Entertainment is developing the game, but it has no release date announced. Bandai, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and Toei Animation had revealed in May that the Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters multimedia project would get a video game, but did not give any further details about the game at that time.

The game is billed as a "deck battle RPG." Players can scan special chips to acquire specific Appmon. Players can use the ability to "Applink" certain Appmon together to enhance certain Appmon. Certain Applinks also trigger particular Digivolutions.

The Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters multimedia project is getting hobby products and a television anime. An "Appli Drive" toy device will ship in Japan in the beginning of October for 4,500 yen (about US$43), and individual chips to use with the device will cost 240 yen (about US$2.30) each.

The anime's site describes the series' story:

Everyone in the world uses smartphone apps. But inside them lurks unknown creatures called "Appli Monsters," or "Appmon." The Appmon are AI lifeforms with the ability to think and act, and exist in the boundary between the human world and digital space to allow people and the system to interface and function. But in the vast sea of the internet, the "last boss AI" Leviathan takes control of the Appmon with a virus and begins hacking every system, thus starting to control the human world from the world of the net.

The protagonist, Haru Shinkai, is led to acquire the Appli Drive, and uses it to materialize Gacchimon, a search app monster. What is the secret hidden within the Appli Drive? What is the mysterious field that exists between net world where the Appmon exist, and the real world? What is the "App Combine" that can combine two Appmons? What is Leviathan's true goal?

The anime's cast includes Yumi Uchiyama as Haru Shinkai, Kokoro Kikuchi as Gacchimon, and Wataru Takagi as the Appli Drive.

The anime will premiere on TV Tokyo in October.
