Okay, make that three. Just kidding.

GATSU, maybe there's no point in trying to change your mind, but the "happy-go-lucky schooltime fun" scene in Eva was just an alternate world that Shinji rejected as he tried to find an acceptable reality -- before he spoiler[found that the reality he wanted was the one he had known before]. There was a deep message there that you totally missed.

If I question Anno's views of his audience at all, it's because of "End of Eva", not the end of the TV series, which was absolutely brilliant (low-budget or not).
