Never watched this show, but I love Monica Rial, so I'll be keeping an eye out on this one!

I totally didn't expect Tonari no Seki-kun to be dubbed! Surprised I'm bound to get quite a few major laughs out of this show. Smile

You obviously haven't heard a lot of her voice acting. While she is better known for her higher pitched and more energetic characters, she has done several characters will deeper, lower key tones.

Using different voices doesn't make one a good VA. I honestly don't think she's a good actress when it comes to acting itself and history doesn't lie. Do your research and you'll find out dubs are more often than not, much better when she's not involved or has minimal participation

What history? I feel like you're using an illusion of facts to try and back up your completely objective opinion. Monica Rial has had good to great performances in nearly all of her registers. There is a reason why she keeps getting work. The woman is good at what she does.

If this sells well, I hope sentai might be interested in getting more short CM long anime titles. Notably She and Her Cat.

Seems Since Brittney Deans is the Director. (Originally a staff member who with help from Kyle Jones and Steven Foster helped her become a VA for minor roles) She's casting Carolyn Medrano whom is a staff member too I believe. But I don't mind since they seem to turn them into okay actors for minor roles or larger ones.

Wow, what an ordinary cast.

I mean they all seem to be well cast but Monica Rial as the KanaHana character and Blake Shepard as the ordinary High School boy is a very typical casting choice.

I don't particularly think that Brittany Deans is a VA. She probably just fills in for voices for minor roles. According to the ANN list, recently, she's been tagged as ADR studio manager. You can see her tagged as such under Parasyte and Akame ga Kill.

Maybe since she's the ADR studio manager, she wanted to take a shot at directing? To me, it would make sense if this is her debut as a director that Sentai would have a trial run with her on a title like this, not to mention throw some veteran voice actors her way to help her out.

As for Carolyn Medrano, I am not familiar with who she is.

In the past, yes. But she's getting some more bigger roles even if minor aka, Nazuna in Log Horizon with a very good performance. She has a heavy accent and you know her just by her voice. But in LH she gave a different style while hiding it. She is coming along well even if she denies it lol. I searched for Carolyn Medrano, and found her linkedin page where it states she is a digital marketing specialist for Aesir Holdings. A branch from Section 23 films.

I'm sorry, do you wanna spend 1 or 5 more months finding the right cast on a 11 8min per episode show?

@theNightster: Since Vic was the 1st ADV voice actor to do work at Funimation, I call it the "Vic Mignogna Effect". Monica Rial and Josh Grelle had to move to the Funi because ADV "shut down" and they are in so many Funi projects perhaps in part that Sentai has such a selective dub output.

Not to mention it isn't like the rest of the cast are a bunch of unknowns. For a short series show, these are all rather veteran voice actors in the industry.

I do love that David Wald voice and the ever so sweet Jad Saxton.

@neph909: Why is there a double standard of many people saying this about English dub voices and not as many saying the same thing about the subbed voices? To me, it doesn't matter which version you prefer to watch, I think at some point people have to admit that you can pretty much apply all the criticisms of an Eng. dub voice to a sub voice. I don't see that getting posted much here outside of me.

I'd be a lot more excited if the price tag wasn't so high. Seems a bit much for a collection of shorts. Those episodes were, what, 5 minutes a piece?

http://www.sentaifilmworks.com/search?q=seki-kun

"Sentai Filmworks will release the full series of shorts on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on April 12 for US$39.98 and US$49.98, respectively."

I think the pre-order price was reduced to 27.99 / 34.99 Anime smile
