Was he mistaken? Sure looked to me like it worked. Poor Kotaro seems to have given up on getting the adults to read to him and just dives in on his own now. Saikawa reading love poetry to him must've been a treat, despite his oO face. Zobbie! Kid's not nearly as sheltered as we thought... I hope this did well in Japan, as I'd definitely be up for another season. Btw, in regards to Yagi's reaction to Kotaro and cute things, it turns out there's a name for that: cute aggression or playful aggression. Other languages even have a word for it. "Although the term 'cute aggression' did not exist in the English language until recently, many other languages do have words to describe these strangely aggressive feelings towards something cute. In Bahasa Indonesian, 'gemas' translates into English as 'something so cute you want to do violence to it.' The Czech word 'muchlovat' means the desire to squeeze a cute person. In the Tagalog language, spoken in the Philippines, 'gigil' describes the gritting of your teeth and the urge to pinch or squeeze something that is unbearably cute." So it's not surprising that such a dimorphous emotional response (e.g., crying when you're happy, laughing when you're nervous) would be depicted with a nosebleed in Japan. |
