This is true. Still, that doesn't mean I'm remotely about to get my hopes up. Go put Zac in Death Note. He could even get a maniacal villain song. ;D *promptly shot by hordes of fans*

I think Death Note: The Musical would be great. It's over-the-top melodramatic as it is.

hahahaha! true that.
I'm sorry guys, but just because YOu didn't like HSM it doesn't mean he sucks. Honestly, I only like a handful of the HSM songs and I am completely infatuated with the Efron bastard.
I am a friggin hardcore otaku person thingamajig and I've been so for a couple of years but that doesn't mean that I am completely close-minded to these sort of things...

I'm just concerned about how good the adaptation itself would be...
We see it in Dragonball: Evolution. It doesn't matter if the actors are of good reputation, if the script sucks... EVERYTHING will suck!

After watching most of the High School Musical movies (I have a little sister), I really do not see how Zac Efron would fit anywhere in the Full Metal Panic! world. I do not think he can pull off the battle-hardened teenage guerrilla/soldier/Milthril specialist Arm Slave pilot role. Besides, his hair is too pretty. It makes him look a little bishōnen.

I learned about this on another board, and considering that board...I thought it was a joke. And it isn't. I pray for development hell.

April Fools' Day was seven days ago, you fools.

Geesh, you think at least one person up there would've had a calendar or something.

But assuming that this is real, and not a sick cruel joke, this would be terrible. Well, just 'cause they have the rights doesn't mean they'll use them. Right? Right?

Zac Effron should be shot. I'm a middle school student, female, and my friends and I all agree on that.

This series is one in which mech didn't drive me away, only because of the Sousuke/Chidori relationship.

But with all this talk regarding Zac, shouldn't the bigger question be who the hell would play Chidori?

I saw a disturbing image a few weeks ago when someone took anime eyes and placed them on a human via software.

*shivers*

It was disgusting despite the image looking professionally done.

I can't say I agree with removing this element from anime and placing into live action. Half the reason Chidori is who she is comes down to her eyes.

I can't see that being replicated with human eyes.

Especially, if for some unknown reason, some top-name actress like Megan Fox gets the role.

*shivers*

I don't want these two lines crossed, but apparently, there's nothing I can do about it.

I saw the previews for Dragonball.

*shivers*

That preview alone should tell Hollywood to cease this asinine attempt.

Ironically, Efron would make a pretty good Kurz Weber, which is probably what they are considering him for. I think he'd be a good fit for the role too.

So far, Hollywood has not done a passable job adapting non-American comic/animated/etc. material into worthy feature films, so I can't come down too harshly on the haters here. But Hollywood adaptations of American comic book movies was laughable before the 1990s, so there's always hope for the future. I'm getting old, so I can't dump on Zac Efron because I don't really know who that is (I should be embarrassed, but reading all the hate I can only feel gratified that I don't know, haha). Cool

What I do want to say is that I hope just the possibility of a FMP movie will spur TokyoPop to continue to release Gatoh's light novels. I've been worried that they've dropped publishing the series since they failed to release the fourth novel (Ending Day by Day) after publicizing a release date. I really want to get my hands on an official translation of Continuing On My Own and Come And Make My Day. And any more incentive for Kyoto Animation to continue animated Gatoh's novels is awesome in my eyes.

Lastly:

spoiler[You know, springtime has been the time of year when unexpected movie releases end up taking top spots in the weekly box office tallies. Though not likely at all, Dragonball may surprise everybody and perform better than expected (God have mercy on our souls), which will put more fuel on the anime adaptation fire. And nothing will likely stop this train -- Hollywood has used up all its ideas for projects and is having to go outside the States to locate new material to adapt.

And finally: check out some other FMP boards -- there's unconfirmed reports that on the Blu Ray release of The Second Raid the seiyu for Sousuke lets slip on a commentary that KyoAni is working on a new production of FMP! Fingers crossed!]

Wow...as much as I like the prospect of a live-action FMP movie (I do have more hopes for it being better than I had for Dragonball), having Zac Efron as a star in the movie...uh, no. I know the guy wants to expand his horizons outside of musicals, but still, I can't see him as being either Sousuke or Kurz. I see him being more like Shinji or possibly even Takuma, if the movie would be an adaptation of that part in the saga.

Nothing says Sousuke Sagara quite like a lily-white boy who sings in an awful Disney musical series that you just want to punch in the face.
All those well known young Afghan actors out there could do a better job, right? A tan some hair dye and some contacts and he could pass off as Sosuke well enough. I will agree that him acting sosuke out might be a stretch though.

I honestly feel a bit more optimistic about this though. FMP's story really wasn't the reason why I ever watched it. As long as they get the sosuke Kaname dynamic well enough I'll be relatively happy.

Oh brother, the usual idiotic response: "They're making a movie of xx anime? And so and so actor is in it? OMG, he's gonna ruin it, Hollywood destroys everything!"

You guys would be bitching regardless of who this article mentioned. So he was in a Disney movie, big frickin woop. I honestly have never seen any of his work (and somehow I think a lot of you haven't either), but hey he still has time to grow as an actor. He's only done a handful of movies. Between now and whenever this movie is made (which is just as likely "never") he will probably do several movies, so who knows, he could get better(although I don't really know how good or bad he is now).

Besides...this is Full Metal Panic. Who do you honestly think would be in it? If this was made in Japan you know they would just use some guys from a boy band, so that wouldn't be much better. If anything, it's just gonna be an average popcorn action movie, which doesn't really require amazing acting to begin with. I MUCH rather watch Efron in a movie than Shia LaBeouf(can't spell it whatever), whose acting range only goes as far as "panic" (he'll say either "no no no!" or "go go go!" at least once in every movie).

Honestly, this TOTALLY seems like an April Fool's joke, but it kind of makes sense. It's one of those anime that could very very easily be made into a Hollywood movie. It's not much of a stretch to have it take place in America (just change the names a bit), and there's been at least one successful movie with robots (Transformers) and there's a plethora of high school comedies...so yea, it's not that crazy an idea.

There's already an LA FMA! It's called Masterminds! Laughing Anyway, this just seems like an excuse to cash in on Spy Kids, but at least it don't matter whether they use a Japanese/Asian cast this time.

I for one am not a fan of the FMP series at all, so to hear this announcement and then to see the public outcry does not surprise me in the least. Wasn't impressed by the series at all, so boo-hoo Rolling Eyes
