I was reading random news when I saw it the minute it was reported by CNN. It started at like 7.9, then went up to 8..then 8.8..and finally 8.9. Just scary. After watching live videos and thinking about it, people need to realize this could affect more than just anime/manga/games. This could effect the world economy in negative ways, we depend on Japan more than they get credit for now days.
I'm glad those people checked in, and I hope there is as little damage as possible, for Japan and for the economy. I hope they can get back on their feet as soon as possible and continue being in the top 3. And as a person born there, it's just heartbreaking seeing the water rush over the land like it's not even there. Nature is the scariest thing there is. |

Holy friggin......... Japan is strong in many ways, but one of its weaknesses is living in a location that has plenty of natural disasters. It must be really frustrating to deal with disasters one after another.......

I wish there was a twitter or anything regarding Hirohiko Araki's whereabouts. I hear he lives in Sendai and apparently a damn broke and flooded the entire area.
And at the Tokyo Electric Power company they're saying that the reactor pressure is rising and might leak. This is really bad. |

I remember Kobe '95. Most of the deaths are from the Tsunami thankfully, I've heard that unlike Kobe's 1995 jiishin, most buildings aren't demolised. Also compared to the 2004 South Pacific Tsunami which 500,000 people were killed and the Alaskan jolt of 1964 which killed thousands, Japan is lucky its death toll is only in the hundreds, lets pray it stays that way. My condolances to those prefectures affected by the Tsunami. Last edited by GrilledEelHamatsu on Fri Mar 11, 2011 12:55 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I just found out this morning through a tsunami warning on google.
NHK is of course airing footage and information about the earthquake. Watching footage of the fires, and the tsunami sweeping peoples homes and cars away is incredibly frightening and sobering. I live in an area where everyone has been waiting to be hit by a large earthquake/tsunami for many years now, so seeing this footage is really scary. Hopefully no one else will get hurt, and that they can recover from this soon. |

Unfortunately my knowledge of japanese is far from being able to fully translate something, so I am waiting for confirmation on the status of these seiyuu: Konishi Katsuyuki http://twitter.com/KCONIQ Sugita Tomokazu http://twitter.com/sugitaLOV Nakamura Yuuichi http://twitter.com/nakamuraFF11 Inoue Kazuhiko http://twitter.com/kazufan326jp Yasumoto Hiroki http://twitter.com/__yasumoto__ As far as I understood from twitter they should be ok, Konishi Katsuyuki was dubbing in a studio and had to leave to take shelter (probably in Ikebukuro? Didn't understand), he also mentions a Hetalia event that was postponed (?). Sugita Tomokazu is perfectly fine, Nakamura Yuuichi should be fine (probably caught up and had to go in the crowded streets?), Inoue Kazuhiko is OK and Yasumoto Hiroki should be fine too. If anyone with a better knowledge of japanese could confirm though, I think it would of more help. Unfortunately the number of victims may rise significantly, since the whole thing is still a chaos...I just hope it won't be that high... We've had our little share of it over here with L'Aquila, so I'm particularly praying for the safety of the 28 fellow countrymen we don't have news about, but also for all other people over there, who're experiencing this hell. |

It was a horrible piece of news to wake up to. I also instantly thought of Tokyo Magnitude, mostly because it was based on scientists' prediction that Japan would have an 8.0 within the next 30 years. Unfortunately it was sooner rather than later, and much worse than 8.0. When I saw a headline about the 300 bodies this morning, it kinda made me sick to my stomach. Simply awful. Definitely praying for the victims. I hope they get back on their feet soon.
It seems like Twitter has been a big help for them since other methods of communication have been unavailable. Some pictures of the damage (nothing graphic, but it is depressing): http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/03/earthquake-in-japan/100022/ |

Now there's a report of another 6.6 magnitude earthquake in Japan.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20110311/ts_nm/us_japan_quake_niigata I feel so bad for anyone in Japan, and really hope everyone will be all right. I have a friend (stationed in the Air Force) and his fiancee over there, and while he posted on Facebook last night that he was all right, it still makes me worried with the tsunami and aftershocks, and now this. x.x |

I was watching fox news last night when it came on. I wasn't really even watching it but a dvd and the other tv had it on. Some very shocking footage man of tsunami. Just thinking that it's 5th largest earthquake in recorded history. Larger I think then Kanto earthquake which been blamed for many early anime being destroyed. My hearts and prayers go out to japan.
