I know it's not nearly at the same level as the winners, but it would still be cool to have it posted in the gallery. ^^ And the fact that I did the concept/back story stuff in a completely different way from the winners is proof that I really need to start reading more of the Naruto manga, because I'm really behind right now, so I'm not sure how Naruto-ish my characters really are. X_x |

Is it just me or does anyone else want to see Matt Gunther's Tokimaru as a cannon character?!!
The concept is unqiue and the background is so powerful that the idea should be brought up to Masashi Kishimoto because I think that he would like it!! Is that a possibility?! Come on ANN use your contacts and propose the idea, PLEASEE!!!

I was pretty amazed by the artwork. I wish I'd done better. I had no idea what I was up against. I got confused about the time zones, so I rushed because I had no idea if I'd make it. How does pacific standard time relate to central time?
Do you think you could do a contest like this about Yu Gi Oh in the near future? I'm more knowledgeable about that series. *sigh*... My contest entry sucked. I'm in Central Time too. CST is 2 hours ahead of PST, so for us, the contest ended at 2:01 am on Friday. And I certainly didn't draw any stick figures, but compared even to some of the other people who didn't win, they might as well have been. I've changed my mind about posting my ninja's here. -_-; EDIT: Actually, I already went to the trouble of making the page, so I'll go ahead and post a link. I am also another person who mixed up the time schedule. i would love to hear any feed back you have about mainly my backstories. i entered under the email [email protected]. thanks And if i could suggest that changing the cutt off time back two minutes could have without a doubt ended all uncertainty. thursday 11:59 pm cannot get confused but when you see ~ friday 12:01pm you think... hmm friday ok what time midnight ...cool. just a thought. |

I think this contest was nfair for us who don't watch Naruto. Seems like most of these people have been drawing these characters for a long time, one of them even has their pictures copyrighted. The only character that I really liked was BATAN. Really nice sketches and the main picture... wow.
Too bad there was no "create your own Rurouni Kenshin/ DBZ/ s-CRY-ed/ or maybe even an Initial D character"... maybe next time? |

Why would someone who doesn't watch Naruto to begin with be interested in winning Naruto videogames and a Naruto DVD??? I still think they should do a YGO contest. I'd dominate! |

Well, this contest was kind of for fans of the show, so of course those who at least have watched it have an advantage over those who didn't. ^^; Of course, I also went out of my way to do extra research because I am not a very hardcore fan (wikipedia + naruto fansites). You must be talking about me and my copyrights specifically. XD Well, for starters, they are original characters that I tweaked to fit into the Naruto universe just for this contest (in most cases, it was just "original character + head protector"--is that cheating? XD). Team PRL is based on me and my siblings. Yuuki and Kouryuu have been my characters for about 6 years now. So yes, I have been drawing them for a looong time. I copyright because they are my babies and pretty much all DA & webgallery people shove copyrights onto their images (and should!). I'm really looking forward to seeing the other entries. So many ideas that I wish I could have thought of!
They probably will have these types of contests when a totally new season comes out (DBZ and those other series are pretty darned old..) or if a newly hyped videogame/DVD-collection/etc. for them comes out. That would be hilarious... my characters as DBZ or YGO characters.. I already have a candidate: Mr. Power. - Prax, it's not cheating.. it's.. resourceful! |

ANN might have a contest involving those, but it would be in one of the monthly/weekly column contests of Answerman or Shelf Life. I don't think they're gonna do one as hyped as this contest for series that old. But I like entering the column contests better anyway, at least I have a much greater chance of winning. |

Actually I do watch Naruto, what I meant is that the average new U.S. Narutard, that would be me (look at "my location"), who has only seen what has been aired on Toonami, is placed at a great disadvantage to those who have been downloading the fansubs and are on episode 100+. I mean just the vast amount of characters, moves, character class familiarity, than someone who has trouble naming the villages from the top of his head. [They] would be more familiar with the Naruto world and have a better idea of what is looked for in a character. I'm pretty sure people already had their own original characters and have been working on them way before this contest even started. I'd be interested in winning a game because I like to play video games and watch anime... I'm a fighting game junkie and I even picked up One Piece Grand Battle without having seen a single episode of One Piece. There is nothing wrong with free stuff, and it's even better when it allows you to learn something new. Props to all of you who actually submitted something in though. I still think Batan looks freakin sick. Wouldn't mind putting her as a wallpaper. I watch Bleach subs.... *begins to work on original character*... wait I have class tomorrow... *falls asleep* |

Here is my entry. Its based on a character from my fan fiction "Dreams of Tomorrow"

Like Gaara and Naruto Kyouken was born a Jinchuuriki at the cost of his mother's life. The spirit of the Gobi Bijuu (Five Tailed Demon Dog) named Houkou was implanted into Kyouken at birth along with a special collar that his father place around his neck. He received the Gobi after his uncle, the former Jinchuuriki of the Gobi, was on his deathbed. Kyouken was born during the time of the third great Ninja war. From birth the expectations to became a powerful weapon put a heavy burden during his childhood. Kyouken was also isolated from society like Naruto and Gaara but unlike them he was sheltered by his father. The Tsuchikage's love for his son smothered the young boy but it was not a caring love rather the love given to an object of affection not a human. His love was so encompassing that Kyouken came to resent his father along with those around him. Even at a young age Kyouken was rebellous and out spoken. He picked fights with as many as twenty other children. With each fight, his furocious nature shined through to the point that everyone believed that he truly deserved his name (Kyouken = Mad Dog). His constant fighting brought forth the need to get stronger so when he reached the appropriate age he wished to join the Ninja Acadamy but due to his father's influence he was not allowed and was instead taught by the Tsuchikage himself. With hunger for strength, Kyouken was able to became a Chuunin at the age of twelve, though most of his peers believed that he did not deserve it due to special treatment. When Kyouken was thirteen a coup d' etat was held to take out the Tsuchikage, who many in the village believed sold out the village to obtain influence with Konoha. The rebels were successful but only due to the influence of an insider. When confronted the traitor revealed himself to be Kyouken. Before being killed by the rebels, Kyouken said this to his father: "Why do you stare at me with such eyes father? Are you shocked that I have betrayed you? You are mistaken if you think that I wish to aid these people or their cause 'because they are the very people who isolated me. The truth is, you are in my way. I know that you used a jutsu on this collar so that I could never betray you. So I formed an alliance with the rebels and led them straight to you. What......why do you still look at me with such eyes? What's the matter father........this is the way you made me!" A new Tsuchikage was appointed and Kyouken was given a top position but not too much later he was betrayed by those who he helped during the coup. He was inprisoned and tortured until late one night when he busted from his shackles and ran into the night becoming a missing nin. He traveled the known ninja world in search of allies in order to return to the village and destroy it. Unfortunately due to his loner personallity he made more enemies than friends. One day as he traveled through the Fire country he came across a small girl who was trapped in a bear trap. He sneered and told her that only weak people are trapped so easily. He walked away saying that she should just die like that. ".........I put my foot here on purpose........." The girl's words caught Kyouken of guard, :"What are you stupid? Why would you do such an idiotic thing?!" The girl smiled and simply said, "I was tired of walking alone. I've walked alone all my life. I was tossed aside like a stray dog by my parents.........this way atleast I can die like a dog like they wanted." Kyouken looked at the girl and asked if she was fine with that......doing what others decided for her. She responded by saying she had nothing else. Kyouken released her and began to walk away. As he did he told her that to die a dogs death is not a bad thing but at least become a true mutt and bare your fangs and those who trample over you.......follow me and I'll show you how to get those fangs. "By the way, how old are you girl?" ".......Thirteen......." "NO WAY!! You're the same age as me?! Man you're short!!........OUCH stop biting my ankle you punk!!" For the first time in his life Kyouken was needed by someone. The girl followed him and was dependant upon him. He would get mad and sometimes incredibly happy by the smallest things she would do. He often had to save her due to her size, which put her in dangerous situations. Kyouken, a person who never needed anyone, found himself caring for someone. "Hey.......I've thought about it for awhile now......I wonder if there are others like me........there must be! I can feel it!! Actually thats where I'm heading right now. I heard an interesting story about the village in this country.........Konoha........" "Good......morning.......young........Kyouken......." Kyouken looked up to see a large man in a black robe covered in red clouds. Abilities: Like many other Stone Ninja, Kyouken obtained many Stone village techniques such as a jutsu that creates a perfect camouflage. But unlike other Stone Nin, Kyouken has abilities given to him as a result of being the Jinchuuriki of the Gobi, Houkou. He is able to manipulate rocks and create earthquakes. As he gets stronger he is able to create higher magnitude tremors. His special Gobi jutsu include: Ninpou: Kiretsu Heki no Jutsu (Fissure Pierce) - Creates large sharp spikes out of rocks and shoots from the ground towards opponent Ninpou: Rokku Sora no Jutsu (Rock Sky) - Similar to Kiretsu but rock spikes fill the air and descend on opponent. Ninpou: Ishiken no Jutsu (Stone Fist) - Using the Gobi's power he condenses stones into as dense and tough as possible and surrounds his fists with them in order to punch without damaging his fists. Ninpou: Ishi Yoroi (Stone Armor) - Using the same technique as Stone Fist, Kyouken surrounds his body forming the perect offensive and defensive armor. He is able to absorb almost any damage and can fight without injuring his body. The only downside is that he uses alot of stamina and is unable to move as fast as he could due to the size and weight of the armor. Hijutsu: Henkei Akuma no Inu no Jutsu (Demon Dog Metamorphosis) - A huge earthquake is created and all the stone and rock in the area surrounds Kyouken and creates the shape of Houkou. The rock is compressed and transformed with chakra until it becomes a unbreakable white stone material. The size of the outer shell is the same as Shukaku and Kyuubi. Kyouken has complete control but the overwelming power forces him to loose his senses and drives him into a mad dog state like when he was a child. |

I was reeeeeally amazed at the quality of these pictures. I mean, the prize was only around $80, but people were going at it like it was a trip to Tokyo. Maybe it was $80 + PRIDE. ;) These entries also ended the myth that you have to be Japanese in order to draw like a Japanese.
While all the were spectacular, I really like the last two who had added a little more silliness and fun to the contest.
Come on, Answerman, use this as your flake of the week, PLEASEE!! ;) |

Well, the contest has come and gone and I want to thank ANN and it's staff for allowing me to compete in it
 . I'm an avid Naruto fan and have been so for almost four years now, so naturally I wanted to create something that felt like it was from Kishimoto's world. Tokimaru took a great deal of work, but it was obviously more than worth it. Thanks to the people who liked my work (especially tengu_monkey  ), I'm glad to be able to share the Naruto-fandom with so many different people .
