Until now, EA was required by contract with the NFL to release all Madden NFL games on every major home system. The ones for Nintendo systems required extra work, as Nintendo systems are very different internally from their competitors' systems.

If it's true and the most recent Madden NFL game is not on the Wii U, then I would guess the rules of the contract have changed. (I don't know as much about behind-the-scenes stuff with 2K Sports though.)
