I rarely buy anything live action, though GITS and Mushishi will be definite buys. I still hope they succeed because the more companies succeeding means more anime selection for me in the long run.

Is "Attack Girl Swim Team vs. The Undead" what they're calling "Girls Rebel Force of Competitive Swimmers"? If so, they should have stuck with the original title. Either way though, it's an incredibly terrible movie. I couldn't even finish it, it was so stupid. It's basically just a softcore porn flick with some really horrendously bad attempts at blood and gore.

Actually, in the world of ultra-low budget exploitation/gore flicks, 'Girls Rebel...' has a bit of zip to it. What I'm leery of is for every 'Asian Extreme' movie, be it Japanese, Korean (especially matching the coming point), or HK, that manages to be terrible yet fun, there are twenty that stop at the simply terrible stage. Or to compare to the Media Blaster's thread, for every sleazy-yet-entertaining 'Machine Girl' there are dozens of plain awful 'Shadow: Dead Riot's.' I'd hate to see companies start bringing over every Asian cult dud in an attempt to capitalize on an already aging ('Asian Extreme') fad. I'd be especially piqued if Media Blasters used the somewhat surprise 'breakout' success of 'Machine Girl' to shift focus to the Asian-obsessed internet anime crowd at the expense of their traditional cult movie fanbase.

GITS is gonna be CGI...not live-action.

Haha, I didn't really like Indian Summer, but it can be quite funny. I actually found it more enjoyable watching the supporting characters rather than the main ones. The two times Ami Koshimizu does her "HAAAAAAH!?" were great.

I'd only consider getting this if it were dubbed, especially since it's ADV.

This was actually a good title to pick it up, and I do think it will do moderately well for them. Sure it's crap, but it's loser fanboy fanservice crap, which means it will sell to people who have never heard of it before based solely on that. There's also the crowd that thinks this may be as good as Chobits (though I hated Chobits - worst of the Clamp anime adaptions I've seen to date) and buy it because of that. At only one disc, there won't be any drop off to worry about for later volumes. It's not what most of us want, obviously, neither is any of the live action. I just hope that this deal they've set up works out and doesn't bomb at the last second and that this one other anime title they're working on isn't El Cazador, even though I suspect it is.

I'll consider maybe thinking about the new ADV titles when I get my Kanon vol 6 DVD.

Until then, as they say in Spain, they can "spin on this" (raises middle finger of right hand).

Yes! An anime title I want! I'm buying Koharu Biyori as soon as it comes out ADV. I'm pleased this is licensed, and I never thought it stood a chance.

Thank you ADV.

The first episode was pretty funny, second episode was mediocre, and third episode was complete crap. Overall, a very mediocre anime. Maybe a buy for me, but probably not.

And honestly other than the supposed plot (this anime might as well not have one at all) this anime is nothing like Chobits (as I see everybody comparing them).

Those live action titles would go well on one of Encore channels. Also, can you think of any major cash cows that aren't licensed already? Gintama is really the only one I can think of. Due to the legal stuff, I'll give ADV the benefit of a doubt on their new partner. They can't announce anything until the deal is finalized. But I do hope they announce something soon.

there is a few cash cows thats unlicensed besides gintama that would do pretty well in the u.s. like soul eater, slayers rev, world destruction, and macross frontier.

i think i might check out this indain summer. hell its only 3 eps and will most likley be $20-30 on one disck. i will not be losing that much money if its bad

Macross Frontier can't be licensed due to many reasons. But stuff like Library War, Real Drive, Allison & Lillia, Daughter of Twenty Faces, Kaiba, Kanokon, Bartender, Moyashimon, ef - a tale of memories, Rosario + Vampire, and others. Also, $20-30 dollars for an hour and 15 minutes is actually a pretty big loss when a show has no re-watch value, thus you won't be able to re-sell it. And don't tell me Game Stop, they'll give what, 2 bucks? Price it at an MSRP of $19.99, and maybe we'll be talking a reasonable price for crap.

Again, ADV makes the mistake of licensing a dead-end title that won't give them any returns, and on top of that, they're going to waste money on dubbing it. Koharu Biyori had nothing new that Chobits, DearS, or a million other ecchi robot maid anime didn't.

I'm not really sure how it's any bigger a "mistake" than MB licensing Girl's High.

No wonder ADV is dead.

If they're dead, then how'd they get these, huh?

kireek:

Why do they keep licensing a load of titles the majority do not want? You know i can envisige this disscusion at ADV HQ

If no one wants them, then why are other companies diversifying into live-action?

I am . . . disappointed. Is this the big "wait till Otakon" anouncement that ADV was hyping a couple of months back? Please tell me this isn't the only upcoming anime title from ADV.

Who the eff cares? What's important to me is that they're still going.

And to think these were the bozos who were goign to release Sgt. Frog.

Yes. They might have released it subbed and uncut on dvd, but now it'll have a dub-only release with a bunch of gratuitous curse words
from FUNimation. A much-needed improvement. Rolling Eyes

Daimao: Dunno if Gin Tama the anime could really be a cash cow. It might end up suffering the same fate as Bo^7.

britannica: Perhaps, but the live-action stuff can reach more places than their anime titles nowadys.

What the HELL, ADV. What the FREAKING HELL.

If it weren't for all the dumbass titles like this that they license, maybe they could afford some titles that people might ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT. The fact that these are the only acquisitions they have to announce is grim, grim news for ADV.

I care. I wouldn't have made that post otherwise.

I honestly want to know, is this everything on ADV's plate for the time being? A one-disc OVA and a handfull of live-action films in which I personally have no interest (you know, what's important to me)? It's not clear to me that, in fact, ADV is "still going," or if the body just hasn't hit the floor yet.

I want ADV to stay in business. I want to buy its products, but when all I have to choose from is an OVA that I didn't even want to watch as a fansub and yet another new $90 RahXephon slimpack, well. . . .
