Jason Douglas really is perfect as Thors. I'm still sceptical on Shannon Emerick, what do you the rest of you think?

Jason Douglas is much better than Greg Chun as Thors. It’s not really Chun’s fault but he was miscast. Askeladd sounds good, possibly a better fit than Kirk Thornton( even if his performance was quite good). Shannon Emerick tends to over-emote and her VSI counterpart might be better in this instance. The translation appears much smoother and less rigid than VSI but there is no way to tell until I am able to watch more of the Sentai dub.

Yeah, it's hard to judge from just one trailer how the dubs compare. That said though, one thing I do like more already is Jason Douglas as Thors.
Still no clip of grown-up Thorfinn though. |

Yeah, it almost seems unfair to compare actors, scripts, etc... because of how weird this whole situation is, but its going to be insanely hard not to. I am super curious what the different time-tables were like for both. Sentai announced this acquisition and new dub months ago, and I wouldn't be surprised based on previous Netflix backlog dubs like Kuroko's Basketball (where multiple actors said the turnaround was insanely fast) if VSI's was far more rushed out than Sentai's. Obviously I don't, and likely won't ever, know for sure, but you can't help but be curious in this type of situation. Outside of scripting and audio mixing differences (the latter of which will probably be super prevalent), I will say I have really high hopes with the Sentai dub's Thors and Askeladd specifically. David Wald is a terrific actor, even if he's probably more well known for playing much more heightened roles lately, and I can't wait to hear more of him in this. Same with Josh Grelle's Canute. On the other hand I'm a big fan of Laura Stahl for on young Thorfinn just on paper alone, while Shannon Emerick has been pretty hit or miss for me in the past with these types of roles and I'm a lot more skeptical. We haven't heard Mike Haimoto yet, but from the clips I've seen Aleks Le's teenage Thorfinn sounds super solid, so its going to be pretty tough competition. Honestly... I don't think I've even heard Aleks in a major role where I actively disliked him?? Even his Zenitsu, a character that should sound annoying as hell purely based on how's he's written, is way more preferable than his JPN counterpart. I have never really liked Emerick's voice work, but she won't be on that many episodes. |

Would have been super predictable (heck it was my own prediction based on her work playing angry boys like in FMA and Boy & the Beast), but I just wish they cast Luci Christian and called it a day haha |

Sounds like a pretty solid dub of the anime to me, although I haven't really went out of my way to watch the VSI version.
