It’s finally happening!!

I wonder if we’ll get a dub for them at some point.

I’m still waiting on Anime Limited’s Macross Plus release. It’s ridiculous how long it’s taking. It was licensed two years ago!

I hope Sunrise Macross will be a reboot with Hikaru, Minmay, and Misa.

Remember, these should stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ (for those with the Disney Bundle) in the US.
EDIT:

I can assume not, and it would be something original. I can assume Disney+/Hulu/Star will simulcast it worldwide.

Oh wow. I was about to ask how Disney got the money for this, but then I realized: Its Disney. OF COURSE they have the money for this. They're way more of a multibillion dollar media magnate than Crunchyroll is.

wow that was most elated, and then most deflated I've experienced since graduating college.

Yay on Macross content streaming.

Fail on Disney+

Apologies if this is dense - would the worldwide stream truly mean the USA as well? We're sure about that? I ask because in the past it hasn't been that way for some things (see Bleach)

It's just what I would personally like it to be.

I mean, I actually enjoyed everything up to the Frontier (haven't watched modern titles), and series really evolved over the years, but to this day it feels like the original Macross setting will always be the true Macross.

I guess it's kinda like how some people feel about the UC Gundam.

Other than that, I just feel that Sunrise, as kings of mecha anime, could make a true spectacle.

At this point it's becoming all the more likely that Big West made all of those announcements as soon as the contracts were signed, and the ink hadn't even fully dried. All those announcements at Anime Expo, and I bet none of the materials for any of them had even been sent over to their respective licensee yet when they were announced.

Anyway, this Disney+ announcement just reaffirms my feeling that Big West REALLY doesn't want to work with Crunchyroll/FUNimation at all, since the only reason CR even has Macross 7, Frontier, & Delta is because it purchased Right Stuf & Nozomi after Big West had already made the announcement for them. That whole thing could be a big reason why those shows are taking so long to get even the most basic of future announcements, too.

I mean, at least Anime Limited has made some announcements regarding Macross Plus!

Well, the list does mention all of them except the original Macross and Do You Remember Love (which is only limited to D+ in Japan). And yes, that meant worldwide too. However, if its any coincidence, Bleach: TYBW had worldwide streaming rights on Disney+, while it was on Hulu in the US. Could happen the same for the almost entirety of Macross here. Though I wouldn't be surprised if its on D+ in the US too and not Hulu.

Yeah, I just get leery and more paranoid than usual because the way Macross has been marketed since the deal reminds me of the GundamInfo portal - and the way access is geoblocked and temporary with that so often.

But yeah, no reason to assume it's not for us until we hear otherwise. I'll go with that and hope.

I think it will be a reboot, but I also keep thinking it will not have the characters Harmony Gold has a claim to.

Here’s my question, what does Disney get out of this? While it would be hilarious if Disney makes a Macross movie while Robotech idles in Development Hell for another decade, I don’t see it.

Harmony Mold still clinging to the original Macross and Do You Remember Love. That's probably why it's only available in Japan.

Disney+ Worldwide usually means Hulu exclusive for us, which then usually means Viz Media home release. I don't think they've ever done a sub only release.
