Ring Horror Franchise Teases Developments with Video, Website

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

The official Twitter account for the Sadako character from the Ring horror franchise launched a website at the "sadako-movie.jp" URL on Friday. Kadokawa also began streaming a teaser video featuring the phrase "it will surely come."

The Twitter account teases that "something" will happen at 4:44 a.m. and 4:44 p.m. JST each day on the website. So far, the website normally has an image of what looks like a cave (first image below), but at the appointed times, an image of a well appears. Starting on Monday, the image changed to show hair coming out of the well (second image below).

Both the website and the above video feature the date May 24.

The Ring horror film franchise is based on Kōji Suzuki's novel of the same name. The franchise has received five films, as well as two Sadako 3D films. The first main film received a Hollywood remake in 2002, and had two sequels. A new Hollywood film titled Rings opened in February 2017.

The latest film in the Japanese franchise was a crossover film with the Ju-on horror franchise titled Sadako vs. Kayako. The film debuted in January 2017.
