Kemono Friends, Attack on Titan, More Nominated for Gadget Tsūshin Net Buzzword Awards

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The annual Ryūkōgo Taishō buzzword contest recognizes all the terms related to Japan's biggest trends and news stories each year. This year the only anime, manga, and video game related terms were Kemono Friends, the ultra-popular but later controversy-embroiled anime series, and DMM's Touken Ranbu video game that has stretched its reach beyond gaming roots into the history and anime communities.

The Ryūkōgo Taishō buzzword list only gives a taste of what is going on in otaku circles, primarily what manages to infiltrate the mainstream. Abema Prime, the news program for the AbemaTV Japanese streaming service, is holding its own buzzword contest centered entirely around what was popular specifically in the anime community. The "Net Ryūkōgo - Anime Ryūkōgo Taishō 2017" (Net Buzzwords - Anime Buzzword Grand Prix 2017) program accepted user-submitted words until Monday.

The list of candidate anime buzzwords includes:
