Rage of Bahamut: Manaria Friends Anime's Cast, Character Designs Revealed

posted on by Kyle Hallmark
Series to air in "Ultra Super Anime Time" block of anime shorts starting in April

The official website for the Rage of Bahamut: Manaria Friends television anime series revealed new cast information on Sunday.

The website revealed that Nana Mizuki (Naruto's Hinata Hyūga, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha's Fate Testarossa) will play the role of Hanna, the student council president of Mysteria Academy who hails from the Elf tribe. She will join the following previously revealed cast members: Yōko Hikasa as Anne, the honor student princess; and Ayaka Fukuhara as Grea, a princess born from a dragon and a human. All three voice actresses are reprising their roles from Cygames' Rage of Bahamut social game.

Additionally, the website revealed character designs for the three girls on Sunday:

Anne (voice: Yōko Hikasa)

Grea (voice: Ayaka Fukuhara)

Hanna (voice: Nana Mizuki)

The series will premiere on April 1 as part of the fourth season of the "Ultra Super Anime Time" programming block. Ultra Super Pictures launched the Ultra Super Anime Time 30-minute programming block in July. Each season in the block features three series of anime shorts. Hiroyuki Imaishi will direct the original TV anime series Uchū Patrol Luluco for the fourth season.

The official website of the anime previously revealed the show's main staff and its first key visual (below). The tagline on the image reads, "An academy fantasy life that plays out on the stage of Mistarcia."

Takafumi Hoshikawa (Candy Boy, Happy Lesson) is directing the anime and overseeing the scripts at Studio Hibari. Megumi Ishihara (Fate/stay night, Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works film) is serving as both character designer and chief animation director. Kenichi Kurata (High School DxD BorN, Blade Dance of the Elementalers) is serving as art director, and Takashi Watanabe (live-action Fune wo Amu, Vancouver no Asahi films, "663114" animated short) is composing the music.

The anime will adapt the "Manaria Mahō Gakuin" (Mysteria Academy in the English version) event within Cygames' Rage of Bahamut social game. In the game, Mysteria Academy is a prestigious magic school that teaches magic without discrimination to the three factions (men, gods, demons), who usually are engaged in battle with each other. The anime will follow the three young women as students at the academy.

The Rage of Bahamut fantasy social card game inspired the 13-episode Rage of Bahamut Genesis TV anime series that premiered in October 2014. The staff announced in May 2015 that a second season of the anime had been green-lit. Cygames anime division employee Nobuhiro Takenaka has confirmed that Rage of Bahamut: Manaria Friends is not related to the second season of Rage of Bahamut Genesis.

Funimation streamed the first season of Rage of Bahamut Genesis as it aired.
