ADV Films Announces Release of Gatchaman: Collector's Edition, Volume One

ADV FILMS ANNOUNCES JUNE 14 RELEASE OF GATCHAMAN: COLLECTOR'S EDITION, VOLUME ONE

Now Available for the First Time on DVD in North America with Brand New Original Art by Famed Comic Book Artist Alex Ross

HOUSTON, February 24, 2005 – The fans were buzzing with excitement this past weekend at San Francisco's brand new WonderCon with some thrilling news from North America's number one producer-distributor of anime.

ADV Films co-founder Matt Greenfield made it known that Gatchaman, the classic series that spawned the hit television classics Battle of the Planets and G-Force, is set to launch for the first time ever in North America on June 14, 2005. The series that gave birth to a new generation of anime lovers worldwide is ready and eagerly awaiting to be unleashed in its original uncut and unedited glory!

In conjunction with the new North American release of Gatchaman, ADV Films is proud to announce that comic book guru and Gatchaman enthusiast Alex Ross will lend his artistic talents with brand-new original box artwork specially designed for this collection. Often called the “Norman Rockwell of comics,” Ross is widely revered for his work on DC and Marvel Comics and is considered one of the leading artists in comics today.

The original Japanese series Gatchaman inspired the creation and development of the hit animated American television series Battle of the Planets in the late 1970s and G-Force in the late 1980s. Gatchaman helped to launch the popularity of anime in both Japan and across the world and has served as the inspiration for countless anime in the years since.

Created by the award-winning Japanese animation house Tatsunoko Productions (Speed Racer, Robotech), the original Gatchaman series has never been aired or released on home video in North America in its original uncut form. ADV's brand new seven volume collector's series will contain all 105 episodes of the original uncut Japanese series with a brand new English dub, including 20 episodes never before seen in the U.S., along with newly released features and extras that any true fan of Gatchaman, Battle of the Planets, and G-Force cannot do without!

Gatchaman is undisputedly one of the most influential anime shows ever and has had immeasurable impact on American anime,” said John Ledford, CEO and co-founder of ADV Films. “Having the original series means a lot to us and more importantly to our fans. We are thrilled to bring this anime classic to the North American home video market for the first time.”
