Eleven Arts Anime Studio Present Deluxe Edition Blu-ray Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
Los Angeles, CAーOctober 23 – ELEVEN ARTS Anime Studio will be distributing a Blu-ray™ Deluxe edition for Maquia that includes additional bonus features, an 80 page booklet, a short written scenario by Mari Okada, a 3-panel display box with art from Character Designer Akihiko Yoshida, and an inner cover with art by Character Designer and Art Director Yuriko Ishii. The deluxe edition is scheduled for release after Blu-ray™ + DVD combo pack releases by SHOUT! FACTORY sometime in March of 2019. Box artwork is not final.
MAQUIA is the highly-anticipated directorial debut of renowned screenwriter Mari Okada, whose previous credits include The Anthem of the Heart and anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day , both wildly popular titles. This time, Okada draws inspiration from her own memoir, about her fraught relationship with her mother. The film dives into the dilemmas of motherhood and adolescence, femininity, racial identity, and leadership. Okada wraps all these heavy-hitting themes into a sweeping epic with well-developed characters, emotional gravitas, stunning visuals, and an exhilarating score by composer Kenji Kawai ( Ghost in the Shell ).
The film premiered in the North America's theaters presenting original Japanese dialogue and English subtitles, also its English dubbed version was screened Nationwide in September.
The film won the Best Animated Film at the Shanghai International Film Festival and awarded Best Film for Fantastic Discovery at Spain's Sitges Film Festival.
