Not Mononoke Hime, but Mononoke. The Medicine Seller travels around dispelling hostile spirits that are around for a particular dark reason. He has to figure out what the secrets are that have called such a spirit out, since he can only use his sword once the Shape, Truth, and Reasoning of the spirit have been uncovered. |

I vote against Skuld from Aa! Megami-sama. She's good at making technical gadgets, but they often fail, and she doesn't act particularly clever otherwise.
Kyokun - Ah, my mistake. Thanks for clarifying. |

In one of the 2003 episodes, Astro is sent on board a spaceship to help them out and calculates an error with the spaceship of a degree off by some ridiculously small number like 1 millionth of a degree that could have messed up the whole mission and killed everyone as a result (except for Astro who probably would've been fine because he's a robot). He seems to use his super computer brain most in 2003 to solve problems and dilemmas, but he doesn't go all smart on other people like some other anime characters tend to do. He is more than capable, but he doesn't always show it. If I had to be specefic, then I'd say the 2003 Astro Boy, as he seems to use his brain most in the intelligent/clever way there. edit, forgot to 2nd Autor and Drosselmeyer from Princess Tutu |

Even though I won't be participating in the tournament, I think it'd be a shame to leave out Kintarou Oe from Golden Boy, so I hope it's ok to toss a name in the fold. The guy completed all his college courses early but then quit before graduating so he could travel around in order to learn even more in real life type settings. I'm not sure if he was just a natural genius at it, but at one point it looked as if he taught himself how to write software overnight. I hope you all can include him in this type of contest.

It doesn't look like anyone has mentioned these people so far, so if I re-mention someone, just count it as a 2nd.
Bulma and Dr. Briefs from DB/DBZ (she made the dragon radar and a ton of other things and Dr. Briefs made even more) Urumi Kanzaki from GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka (how did I forget her?) |

More nominations:
Shigeru Kanmuri from Yakitate!! Japan - scientist, strategist and lover of bread! Kisuke Urahara from Bleach - more so than Mayuri Kurotsuchi he has the technical smarts, and while he may not quite be up to Aizen standards, he's pretty good at manipulating people, too. And some more 2nds - Kyoya Ohtori from Ouran High School Host Club, Ritsuko Akagi from Neon Genesis Evangelion and Aizen from Bleach. @Dorcas_Aurelia, on Yuki Nagato - she may essentially have superpowers, but there's an element of cleverness to how she uses those superpowers that I think makes Yuki a worthy candidate. For example, spoiler[the entire incident with Ryoko Asakura - both as an example of her quick thinking, and of her insight and forward planning, in a match where both parties have essentially the same superpowers, Yuki's own intelligence shows through.] I agree that she does toe the line a little, but I think she'd be fun to have in the tournament. |

More seconding. I missed Shuurei Kou from Saiunkoku Monogatari the first time round, and new noms to be seconded are Kyoya Ohtori from Ouran High School Host Club and The Count of Monte Cristo/Edmond Dantes from Gankutsuou.
I think to put it at 3 for the series (and because I don't think it's fair for the others to be nominated and not him), I'll nominate Shi Ryuuki from Saiunkoku Monogatari. Also, Chiyo Mihama from Azumanga Daioh |

LydiaDianne - Can you explain your nomination of Folken Fanel from Vision Of Escaflowne a bit more? While he does seem to know more than the protagonists at first, I'm not sure he uses that information all that much.
Aylinn - Sorry, it's been a while since I watched the Banner Of The Stars series. What did Dusanyu do that makes him stand out from the other officers for you? And I'll second Chiyo from Azumanga Daioh. |
