Just to be clear, your argument is that since they can't control everything, they shouldn't work on what they can control? That is an argument, certainly. Not a useful, salient, or productive one. But it does indeed exist.

That is not my argument. It was that it is just not safe to view anime sites, including ANN, at work, and I guess on public college computer stations as someone mentioned.

ANN is the best anime site around, but they still have to make money to run it. That means they have to run ads. The companies that are paying ANN to run their ads, have something to sell and they want to hook their whales. So they are going to display what sells in their ads.

And if that ad is bad, then why is it okay to have all those public billboard ads for swimwear, fashion clothes, and perfume. You know the ads I am talking about. They are everywhere including the commercials on your TV. Watching Access Hollywood and TMZ in public places should get you in trouble too.

My apologies for mischaracterizing your argument. I should have acknowledged it instead as another classic awful argument- whataboutism. As in "But what about the advertisements?" My bad.

I am not asking for the ads to be addressed. I understand that ads are often derived from things up to and including my own browsing history, and thus ANN is not in control there (my browsing history is such that the ads you speak of, I never see). Neither am I asking the content to be completely removed- that isn't desirable at all. I am simply asking that an age-gated article- which this one is, if you aren't logged in on an account- not have an ass-shot thumbnail, that's as "risque" as the content already being gated. In the article is quite alright. I would like the content within site control to be internally consistent in that regard.

Further, you've made a lot of statements regarding what is and is not work appropriate. Sometimes you are correct. Often you are not. That is often what happens when sweeping, universal statements are made. Different workplaces have different standards- maybe yours have been consistent, but that is not everyone's experience.

Its a thumbnail, not an ad. A thumbnail ANN has control over. An Ad they may have some control over however, its a thumbnail as I said and ANN has control over this. As has already been pointed out already, and let me just break this down so we can all move on already...

On one side we have men showing their bare butts, nipples and chest, all without so much as ANY scrutiny. (To which those upset about the thumbnail have CHOSEN to ignore this fact and not say a word)

On the other side we have women showing most of their butts, chest and nipples and THIS gets scrutiny. In the case of the thumbnail its showing most of the butt, something which you see (and possibly more) at a friggin BEACH. (To which those upset about the thumbnail have CHOSEN to ignore this fact and not say a word) Panties and bras that are water proof is basically what a swimsuit is. :P

On one side some are saying ANN should change the thumbnail to a "safe" image.

On the other we have those (Inlcuding myself) saying the thumbnail is fine and it has already been proven that ya'll that are upset about the thumbnail are in the wrong here (My personal opinion, but u could also say over reacting to nothing) and the ONLY REASON u even have a foot to stand on is cus many places in the work force share a similar view to ur own and thus u run the risk of getting fired for seeing something thats actually SAFE for work, but falsely claimed as NOT safe for work due to the unfair treatment us women have to go through and put up with here. Now if u wanna turn around and start advocating and crying out about how a man showing HIS bare naked butt AND chest AND nipples is not safe for work THEN and how swimsuits, bill boards of the sort for men and women are also not safe for work then you have more reason to complain becus otherwise, u'r just being a hypocrite and am sorry but thats the truth as it can't be nudity for one and not the other. YET! as was already pointed out, u see this ANYWAY at the beach and on bill boards and other places too. Also in magazines too at the grocery store...

Now, if u have something NEW to add, that can refute the proof given here besides "I could get fired", which was already said that u shouldn't be browsing an anime site anyway at work, (and in my personal opinion, any place online as ads and site wise and fandom wise u never know when someone will post something actually NSFW), then go ahead and share otherwise, can we just move on please? ANN doesn't have to change the thumbnail and if thats why ya'll are still going on about it, DAYS LATER I might add, then move on...

My apologies if I offended anyone with this post but I've only spoken the truth... also, its sad that hardly anyone has been talking about the article and anime itself, instead focusing SOLELY on a SAFE image thumbnail...

Even with ads, could probably explore adaptive strategies that let the user indicate some preference over general categories of ads that are of interest. I guess the danger to that from an advertiser's perspective is it may limit hooking new people, but it would probably also do a better job focusing their ads on people with a strong interest in whatever they're selling, so may not be a net loss for them either. Similar to the thumbnails, feels like that's easy to address by just adding a tag to each image uploaded and let the user flip between sfw and nsfw versions of the site based on their personal preferences.

I don't know (or care) about Ikkitousen but a show in a somewhat similar vein that I fondly remember is Koihime Muso. It has just as much and probably more fanservice and the characters were pretty cute-not to mention it had plenty of fights. And yes-when I saw that "age appropriate" popup I thought did I accidently go to a porno site by mistake? And what ads? I use a couple of adblockers and other things so I never see any of the damn things.

I've shown loli hentai images to some of my patients at the hospital I work at and never got in trouble for it. I don't get it, lol. Just look at everything on your phone and you're safe.

It would be nice if an adult mentality was actually used when talking about these types of series. Instead of someone who can't get over the sight of underwear, dwelling on it to the point of near obsession. Particularly in a fanservice heavy series where all your going to do is passively aggressively take digs at it.

The true issue with this series and other just like it are the stupid edgelord grimness and death, especially mixed with cute.. This series would have been so much better if all the rivalries fit more into the era/setting.. I mean fighting and all that.. but the killing seems all super out of place. This is one of the few types of cases where fanservice does become an issue... as an old Animerica review of such a series put it... "Something seems really disturbing about an overt panty shot followed by said female character getting her brains blown out"

It would be a much better series without all the edginess.

---

Wait, are we REALLY having a meltdown over a thumbnail?! :/
I guess adult mentalities might be too much to ask in general here.
