But nobody licensed Claymore, Ouran, Monster, Code Geass or even Romeo x Juliet?!?!

While I have no interest in it myself, I am surprised Romeo x Juliet didn't get licensed. I'm going to Anime Next this upcoming weekend, and the whole thing is gonna be like a RxJ lovefest. Bleh. They have the band and the Producers going as guests. But to me, Romeo & Juliet has been overdone. You can put them in giant radioactive lizard costumes in outer space, and it'll still be the same old R&J story.

Oh don't be such a pleb.

Romeo x Juliet is bound to have a fanbase, due to the fact that it's modeled after the most prolific and important piece of fiction EVER.

The show actually does a good job of fleshing out the plot and giving characters a different spin in terms of personality and backstory, plus focusing on the political side of the star crossed lovers.

Why not talk trash about The Odyssey or Beowulf while you're at it? Rolling Eyes

Well, I guess this makes a lot of Ouran fans sad, but there's always next con...good thing Terek isn't here Rolling Eyes And wow, Bandai's license on Love Hina was that short? Darker than Black I never checked out, and frankly, I've got half a mind to delete all that I have of Negima!? after only watching 6 episodes. Call me crazy, but I liked the first one better.

While I love and own all of Love Hina, the specials and the Love Hina Again OVA series,I really gotta wonder why FUNimation is bringing a series out that was brought out already and why (if they do) they would waste time re-dubbing one of the ONLY good dubs ever made.

Hey FUNimation...instead of trying to make me buy a series I already have why not get something new like:

Gintama
Dr. Slump
Captain Tsubasa
Hunter X Hunter
Ichigo 100%
Slam Dunk
More Lupin
Wait, were we listening to the same Love Hina dub, the dub that made my "prefers to watch dubs whenever possible" friend beg me to switch it to Japanese? If they completely redubbed it, I'd buy it again.

Captain Tsubasa & Slam Dunk? Slam Dunk already had its chance here, and while Captain Tsubasa is beloved worldwide, I doubt it would sell that well in the US, just like most other sports anime. And Ichigo 100%? It may be similar to Love Hina, but it adapts a smaller percentage of its source manga than LH does, and feels woefully incomplete.

Funimation HAS a tainted record of re-editing and Americanizing Anime for the Young Poulation, making Anime that was intended for a more mature group, remade for the... less than mature people watching anime today. Take X and its OAVs, would you sit your 8 or even 10 year old sibling or child down to watch??? NO! its a total mind screw! and the Japanese release of DBZ was ALOT more graphic than the watered-down release WE got! Now, with love hina, i OWN the Entire Japanese release! about 45% of my collection IS import release! Now i hand them the fact that they are improving, but they have a long way to go to atone for the past!
Just how many anime have Funimation edited and Americanized? Please name all of them that don't start with "Dragon Ball." What does X TV have to do with any of this? It was released by Geneon, not Funimation. And if you mean the "import releases" they sell on Amazon and Ebay, those are not the real Japanese releases; they're most likely bootlegged copies of the R1 DVDs you claim are so flawed. Unless they have Chinese and optional Engrish subtitles; I'm sure those mangled translations are much less flawed than anything Funimation puts out Rolling Eyes

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Dragon Ball Z is a shounen jump title (which has a younger kid target audience typically) and Japanese S & P work way differently than the one in the States.

How can you justify giving Funimation a hard time for doing the best they could in editing the show for airing in the states (besides, you can blame Bandai for setting the standards in that area, and also the dub, ugh)?

Funi gave you uncut releases and now the uncut season sets (which yeah, have the aspect issues), what more do you nay-sayers want?

now that im done defending Funi now its time to ask that one thing and that is... why are you trying to make me buy an anime that I already own?!?!

Because many young newbie anime fans don't even know much (or anything) about Love Hina, and it has the potential to resell to a ton of people (combination of people who haven't seen it, and people who may want the added features of this re-release, if any).

now the newbie anime fans who haven't seen the anime I can understand but for anyone that already has the Bandai and just going to buy it for a whole new dub doesn't really make that muchs sanse to me..

The fact that Ouran was not announced at AX just proves one thing: never believe the rumor mill. I never will again. *sob*

Funi (and all you other lame companies), you fail, fail, fail. Crying or Very sad

Question Umm, the band KISS from the '70's? Wait, what? Is that an acronym for "keep it simple?" But then wait, what's that other "S" stand for? Please clean up your mechanics; your posts are hard to read.

Well, I'm willing to put money that Geneon will be the ones to get Romeo X Juliet. As for the announcement for it getting liscnenced. That I far more expect to happen at Anime Next.

There is a serious lack of Jyu Oh Sei love in this thread ... probably because most people have never heard of it Sad But that's honestly the license I'm most excited about -- a lesser-known science-fiction series with gorgeous animation and a solid plot getting licensed nearly a year after its broadcast. Thank you, Funimation ^__^

I forgot about how Anime next is going GONZO Laughing, I also thought we hear about RxJ considering that Gonzo brought the show to AX with Subs. Maybe Gonzo trying to get a gauge on how much they ask for this series.

Spell check first. Also I don't think there's any reason to be worried about Funimation sure when they started up things were a bit different, but there is nothing that points out to me that they are going to ruin more shows....well as wide screen cut is available that is.

Also as for the Jyo Oh Sei comments above me, your right I haven't ever of heard of it but after checking out the encyclopedia it looks interesting, and it has some decent scores I'll have to check that out and see what it's about.

I usually roll my eyes when people call a sequel series a new season, but calling Negima!? a second season is just plain wrong since it has nothing at all to do with Negima! beyond having the same characters and a somewhat similar premise. That said, I might just pick up Negima!? because at times it was silly and humorous to me, which I liked. I never did get around to watching the end, so it might have a suck ending, but assuming I still have a job, I might just take the risk.

Love Hina -- if it gets retranslated from scratch and the new subtitles are brought up to FUNimation's normal standards, I'll "double dip" and happily get rid of my Bandai DVD's.

I'm glad for fans of Tsubasa that they finally get confirmation that FUNi scored the second season there. I'm sure if those DVD's sell well that FUNi would eventually try to license the forthcoming OVA's.

And xxxHOLiC finally being licensed didn't surprise me, but I wouldn't have been surprised if FUNi had ultimately given it a pass.

DemonEyesLeo -- I don't know if Reaper meant this, but KISS stands for "Keep It Simple, Stupid."

I am excited that Darker Than Black and Negima!? were both licensed. I have really enjoyed watching Darker Than Black and I have really been wanting to see Negima!? since I saw the last Negima! DVD. Were the Negima! Haru and Natsu OVA's licensed also?

I noticed that the Negima link in the article links to the Negima! manga instead of the newly licensed Negima!? anime and that FUNimation isn't listed in the "English Companies" section. I just thought that I would point that out.

Crying or Very sad Not only am I tired but I'm also depressed right now. No Ouran! I'm VERY disappointed with ALL of the companies right now.

I was pleased to hear about the second season of Tsubasa and the first season of xxxholic. Although I'm really surprised that they are waiting until 2008 to release holic. Didn't they announce getting the title back in mid to late 2006? That's a long time to wait to release something, IMO. But what do I know.

Oh and to the guy who was bitching about Funi and what they did in the past: Funi is the #1 anime distribution company in the United States with a 31% market share. So apparently the rest of us like what they are doing with their product and are quite willing to forgive and forget.
