I doubt it's many people but as a fun tidbit this is actually happening. One of the larger anime youtubers Digibro and his friend BestGuyEver both absolutely hate this show and decided to do sort of mini podcasts about each episode after they air. A few people myself included are only following the show for the extra context when they trash it. Personally I'd have jumped ship after the 1st episode otherwise.

People still watch Digibro? Those video views say that very few people care about anything he has to say unless it's a hate piece or clickbait on popular shows. His fanbase really does just love bashing on shows.

Though I do see Eromanga Sensei being a show people hate watch. It's pretty divisive in it's material yet is wildly successful, which makes the perfect recipe for a lot of angry anime watchers lol.

I wouldn't say that I "watch" Digibro, I have watched some videos here and there. But I think he can be really good at analyzing stuff and breaking down shows. But he can also be absurdly nitpicky with certain shows like Asterisk War. But at least he does provide reasons for why he dislikes something. So I don't really see the problem.

I'm only still watching this show for Elf, and even then I hope she doesn't "win", because as a character she deserves so much better than a boring sack of nothing who wants to smash his sister.

It almost feels like game theory by the author: “How generically can I present this setup and still keep the audience keep watching?” It's always frustrating to see a series that could be better choose not to be.

I think you give the author too much credit, I just think the author's not that good, and can barely rise above writing generic harem schlock, where all the girls lives and dreams suddenly completely revolve around the MC, who for the most part stands still as cute girls babble their confessions of love at him, or at least knows that as long as the girls are cute people will eat it up.

Muramasa may be the worst example of standard harem character, she just meets the MC and is madly in love with him, gives up her dream because she read some half baked story MC came up with in the middle of the night.

Remember muramasa started writing because she liked the MC's novels so much and couldn't find any others that she enjoyed. Her dream started with him, it was she has only known him as an author instead of as a person. Her 50 page fan letters that he has been getting during his writing career show that it's not just a spontaneous thing although it does border on creepy if that were to happen in real life.

I do agree that the reviewer seems to be expecting a bit much nuance from the series. I enjoy the characters and the simple humor even if they have been done before. It doesn't have to be revolutionary to be enjoyable. This is a harem show with a focus on a brother and his sister who is not really his sister, I'm not sure what the reviewer was really expecting to get content wise.

(That's a pretty bold choice, given that Masamune and Kyosuke look exactly alike).

I think Kyousuke looks more like Hikigaya Hachiman than with Masamune... Neutral

As much as I disliked the ending of the show, I was genuinely excited to see the main characters of Oreimo pop up.

The flashback sequence was very nice, but yeah, could have done without the fanservice focused on a seven year old. Confused Fan service with her at 12 is uncomfortable as it is.

...Masamune's dad and Sagiri's mom seem like pretty cool people, so exploring their relationship with mentoring their kids as well as how their families got together would make a more natural continuation to what we got here, but the show doesn't even attempt to connect the parents (nor indicate that it intends to any time soon).

There is a possible way out of the contrivance: Sagiri's mother seemed very interested to overhear that Masamune's father was single. She's an illustrator; he's an author (isn't he?), so they work in the same industry. If the two of them actually got together because of the connection between Sagiri and Masamune, a lot of the unlikeliness goes away.

I doubt the anime will address this, but perhaps the underlying light novels connect the dots for us.

After yesterday's episode, I was looking forward to seeing what Christopher had to say about the Oreimo cameos at the end, but he didn't even mention it in his review. Confused

He does, right in the middle.

Episode 12

It seemed rather strange see them go with the regular ending for the last episode, but then that change in the end Very Happy ...

Hope there will be another season.

The series makes so many concessions in the name of pandering that it becomes clear it isn't worried about broader appeal.

Who cares about broad appeal other than the nutty people out there who want to be accepted for pretending to be what society deems is right, rather than being accepted for being themselves? Works that have 'universal appeal' are always some of the most surface-level pieces of trash possible, kowtowing to the insecurities of artists and audiences who have forsaken their own opinions and decisions. If Eromanga-Sensei wants to be about a guy who wants to fudge his sister then judge it for that, not whether or not it appeals to a broad audience and has a theme or message that props up the fragile ego of societal approval.

Looking at the streaming results from Japan, appeal goes across the board.
Guys love it, Girls love it.
Ok, it will never been mainstream, but nether most of late night anime, but for a late night audience, It was a complete success.
Also was a LN sales increase success. The only thing remaining is to see if sells BD/DVDs.

Let's hope for another season.
